This is trending because there have been cases of avian flu detected in dairy cows and also cats, and apparently the first recorded case of transmission from dairy cow to human.

If this develops so that human to human transmission is possible this will be much, much worse than covid.

H5N1 has a fatality rate in humans of between 50% and 60%.

Based on a sample size of about half a dozen as transmission to humans is very rare and almost solely in poultry workers in fairly appalling working conditions and health care.
