Grip socks, sock sleeves and mini shin pads. WTF?

Ok so I get the grip socks bit, comfier, don't slip in your boots. I can can see how that works or at least the marketing angle.

So sock sleeves, I can see why you need these when the grip socks are the length they are, but why the **** don't they just make the grip socks longer so you can pop in a shin pad in the usual manner.

which brings me onto mini shin pads. What the actual **** is the point? offers no protection at all. Either wear a shin pad or don't. These dolls house accessories are neither use nor ornament.

Someone please explain.

Fashion.

People do what is trendy. See nose strips to help you breathe, kinesio tape on your muscles, collars up like cantona, shirts untucked, sicks rolled down, socks pulled up, socks with holes in because calf muscles are too big, black boots, coloured boots, snoods, gloves, under armour, tattoos, hairstyles, gucci washbags, massive headphone etc.

There is a requirement to wear shin pads but there is no size requirement so expect to see the smallest ones they can get away with and at some point we'll probably see the biggest. Are shin injuries really a thing these days? Do shinpads actually offer any protection. I play 5 a side and I never see anyone wearing them. Should I be?

Funny, had this discussion with my mate last week.

Footy socks with grippy bits ✅

Sock sleeves and tape - just a racket by the sock sleeve and tape manufacturers. Kids look at the pros doing it and copy. Haven't yet seen kids cutting holes out of their socks, as I assume mam's/dads/coaches would knack them.

Mini shin pads - just......WTAF??? Going into a 50/50 with those on 😖😖. Absolutely useless.

Some regional FAs are banning them aren't they?

Drives me mad.

My two kids have multiple pairs of grip socks/sock sleeves and the absolute meltdown if these aren't clean or can't be found for footy training or matches.

I moved to full sized (same size a normal footy socks) grip socks last season and they are great to be honest. The mini shin pads are used exclusively by the quicker more skilful lads in our team, the rest of us cloggers wear "normal" sized pads 😁
