The better half uses Birdnet when she comes across something she doesn't know, which is not very often. Most of these apps and for identifying flowers, insects etc are not to be relied on 100% - they can make some right bloomers. Your ears are more useful than your eyes when identifying birds as more often than not you don't get a clear view of them before they fly off.
I use Merlin and find it very effective. At one point had 14 different birdsongs identified at the same time and place.I use BirdNET which is mostly good but sometimes frustratingly bad. Might give Merlin a go.
It was probably just one starling taking the pîss. They're great mimics.I use Merlin and find it very effective. At one point had 14 different birdsongs identified at the same time and place.
Had no idea there were that many different ones there.
It’s awesome, go for a walk most evenings, well, when I’m not at work. The only thing is, as soon as I put it on, a F***ing wood pigeon will appear from nowhere!!Out for a weekend of walking in the countryside with a mate I hadn’t seen for a while and he introduced me to the App ‘Merlin’
A kind of ‘shazam’ for birds - I’m loving it
