Grade our season thus far

I largely agree with your sentiments newy. If we had a full squad some of the new lads would be bit part players as you would expect until they settled into the team patterns of play.

Our inconsistency it's largely down to the defence who can't keep a clean sheet. We score most games and often in multiples yet it's the forward line who are carrying the can.

The defence had the same issue last season.. it’s our swashbuckling attacking style!

Well.. it was last season. Now we’re just a pale imitation of the mythological squad of supermen we had last season.

We are on par and set up to be better than last season.

Southgate quotes something along the lines of the effort it takes to remain where you are with resources drying up etc.

We’re doing well. We don’t deserve to be e higher than we are.. the squad is better than where we are.. because of the early season handicap. When we’re fi timing on all cylinders we are a top 3 side.. plus.. we’re capable finishing 6th on 75 points.

I agree we will finish to 6. Happy to have a charity bet with anyone who doesn't agree. We get a bit of banter and trash talk and a charity gets a few quid it's a win win.

It’s a long season and, as we experienced last year, it’s about how you finish. I think we peaked quite early last season.

That pretty much sums up where I'm at. We need luck - getting the breaks in games, with injuries - and we could push on into the play-offs and up. If we did go up, I'd fancy us more under Carrick than under Karanka in a way, because Karanka could only do one (grinding) thing.
We had a good blend in the second half of last season and we've shown glimpses only this season so far. Nevertheless, I fancy us to push on if we can get McGree, McNair. O'Brien etc back, add a couple of cute signings (especially a striker) and stay relatively injury-free.
 
This is probably the point to grade our season so far, as we're exactly halfway through.
I reckon a good solid B, to be in a Semi final and 3 points off 5th, despite losing most of our best players from last season and an unbelievable injury crisis, is very decent.
I also think it's inarguable that our squad in the first half of this season is stronger than it was in the first half of last season. If we had 14 first team players out at this stage last season we'd have been playing 6 or 7 from the youth team.

THIS

We’re in a semi final.. that counts for something.

Last season was immense.. folks still talking about it and wishing we could have what we had last season.. WE HAVE infact I think we are three points up on where we were last season.

Our players, OUR players are contributing much more that the players they replaced.. bare minimum they are on par.

The thing that everyone wants.. we’ve got it and it’s happening right now! Open your eyes!

Half way.. better than last season.. semi final.. 3 points off 5th is UNREAL

A+ and I honestly mean that. spot on.

With the season compared to last (after Carrick's arrival especially) C-. Considering the relevant performance of Carrick, his coaches and the players with that crippling injury list as a mitigating factor; B+

If we beat Rotherham we'll have as many points after 28 games as last season and be in a Semi final of a major cup competition after just beating Chelsea in one of the best nights in our history..... maybe even a B+!
