Govt has given Pfizer protection from any legal action

Couple of things
The science is still contrary - only last week a BMJ article from a peer reviewed study in Denmark said masks were having no effect on stopping the Covid virus.
Up until the end of 2019 masks were not seen as the way forward.
Those in Asia are predominantly worried about pollution

Assuming they have some +ve effect - why change now because of a random disease that may/may not come back. If it (or something similar) does and we believe in masks we put them back on.
Proportionate response please
Interestingly the paper didn't say that at all. Firstly, it showed that there was a better, albeit very small, chance of a mask stopping you catching coronavirus. What the study didn't look at was whether masks reduce transmission from a person with coronavirus, something that from the very beginning was said to be the major benefit of masks.

Why?

Did you wear them before this year?

Wearing masks all the time does nothing for building up one's immune system does it?

This is the whole problem in a nutshell.

Wearing a mask isnt for you. Its to help protect everyone you come into contact with.

I used to see Asia tourists in foreign airports wearing masks years ago, and I thought it was a bit arrogant and almost like saying "this country is foul and we might catch something" Then a friend from Japan explained that the opposites was in fact the case, and people wear masks if they are feeling unwell in order to stop them spreading it to other people. Man, did I feel like a tool.

Wearing a mask is the easiest and most unselfish thing a person can do. If you dont wear one, you are an ar$ehole, pure and simple. (and dont start with the medical exemption BS. if you have respiratory issues which prevent you wearing a mask then stay the fook at home during a pandemic)

Its amazing the number of 30 something builders and perma tanned botox lipped lasses who seem to have developed medical issues preventing them wearing a mask.

That's an interesting post Billy, full of rhetoric and an anecdote.
observations and opinions my good chap.

Lets just say on the infinitesimally small chance that masks are ineffective, whats the worst thing to happen? I have worn a mask for a few months when I didnt need to? wow thats been a real hardship.

Now lets consider that masks are effective and you havent worn one out of principle or whatever, whats the worst outcome? oh yeah, you have spread the disease and caused the death of someones Nan. Hey ho, at least she led a full and happy life right?

Fair enough Bear
My real concern is personal proportionate response based on open communication v top down response based on secrecy

How many people not wearing a mask have you called an **** just out of curiosity? 👀

I wear a face covering (snood like thing) when visiting shops or clocking in at work. Do I wear one whilst walking down the street in the fresh air? No. Guess that makes me an ****. Been called worse I suppose.

I have found if you wear one outside people avoid you like the plague.

Does the guidance advise you to wear a mask while walking down the street in the fresh air? There are multiple things that can make an individual an a$$, but then I have a feeling you already know that.

And yes, if an individual who doesnt have a mask on gets inside my 2m social distance bubble at the shops for example, then I will "ask" them the back off. Same with the sub species that wear their mask as a throat warmer.

Yeah I've seen people dodge people wearing masks outside too, sometimes even jumping into the road. Wonder if those folk think those wearing masks outside are carrying the virus sub consciously?

There are still rigorous checks before authorising emergency use.

Still not 'rushed'
Maybe we have different definitions. But for me something that you're expected to inject directly into your bloodstream, going to market before is passed a full approvals process, is rushed

Would be an irony if one of those people jumping into the road was hit by a car. Imagine being so stupid that you would avoid a situation that is safe to put yourself in danger. People are idiots man

Agreed. For clarity that's people with and without masks jumping away from others wearing masks.

This social distance lark has been easy for me walking down the street anyways as I'm always walking quicker than everybody else so just cross over or

The thing about it being indemnified, though, is that most of the 'big vaccinations' in the UK are also on that 'exempt from being sued' list, as I understand. So I'm not sure this is that significant.

I suppose you could argue that the vaccine should have been used for a few years before we add it to the list, perhaps.
