Good way of saving money

When I looked the EV still had the government grant discount thing on them too (is it still running?). I presume they'll come down eventually.

It was a second car for an intown runabout for me. I'll hang on till I change the 'big un' in a couple of years before going EV.

I desperately want a Cyber Truck!
Whisper it quietly but I have a Cybertruck on order. I put my deposit down two year ago. Although I'm regretting it now because the rivian looks far better and they've actually released that.

Yeah the grant. I pretty much ignore that now. It used to be £5000 for cars up to £40000 in value. it's now a paltry £1500. and for cars up to, I think, £30000

so you Mini would take 7.5 years to recoup costs. Assuming you couldn't charge for free at work, don't have solar, etc...

Not good

Is it true about parking and the green thing on the reg or an urban myth?
urban Myth. The green flash means nothing. They even let you put it on petrol cars if the emissions are low enough. Hopefully that'll change. IN Norway EV can use bus lanes. IN a big city thats reaosn alone to have the green flash! But at the moment it doesn't do anything.

I love the slide out section behind the back seat of the Rivian and a couple of other bits and bobs on it. But the Cyber Truck looking like one of the ships from Star Fox on the SNES still swings it for me.

Are they still planning on fulfilling, tri-motor, then dual etc moving down the range?

If Ford do an EV Bronco here I'd probably sell a kidney to get one too.

Knackers. Bloody internet .

Not sure what the plans are. I've ordered a tri motor. but heard literally nothing. Apart from the fact it will be too big for European roads and they were considering a Cybertruck lite. Or, you know, buying twitter instead!

It's weird this isn't it, even though I agree with you, there's still a massive exaggeration in your post. The £6000 difference has magically increased in value by a third.

I think this is where my frustration with the Anti EV gang kicks in. Even when you're correct for some reason there has to be a lie or exaggeration to "prove" it.

Bottom line is: Unless you're getting a 2nd leaf then purchase price is a barrier. I know that. Hopefully this will come down and you should weigh it against TCO savings. Not just fuel, which is significant, but servicing and tax and maintenance too.
I'm not anti EV, very much for them.

The £8000 difference was mentioned in a thread above by someone who had looked into it.

I've done the same thing as we're going to be buying a new vehicle in the near future.

Fair enough. Turns at the figure was a £4500 difference. Which is too much for me. I guess I have an almost unique case: My car was specifically built to rival the BMW M3. So it's one of the few instances were the EV is cheaper to buy than the ICE equivalent. Before you factor in the much cheaper running costs!

I would live to see a like for like comparison across the board: I.e. a clio v a zoe up to a taycan v a panamera.

I suspect, after the MINI example, that the smaller cars suffer more from a price gap. Which is the absolute opposite of what you need to improve uptake. A taycan owner probably doesn't care if his car is more expensive then a panamera. but if you're buying a MINI, the price difference (especially if expressed as a percentage of cost of the vehicle. Is eye watering.) Needs fixing. At least the second hand market will improve soon.

Saving £600 a year on fuel/energy is currently realistic I agree for a EV.

But if there is £9k price difference in new car prices that's 15 years to recover, some cars never make 15 years.

The cost of electricity will be rising in October when the price cap is increased, while I think Oil prices have peaked for a good while. (the common wisdom on here was $50/barrel, its currently $100)

I can see subsidies coming off electric cars soon - is it fair to subside the better off when poor people are struggling to feed and heat themselves?

The same with Road Tax its effectively a state subsidy for EVs - EVs use roads like other vehicles. The Government needs this tax.

I`d love an EV but I have a question, but I`ll set the scene first if I may

I have a petrol car 3 litre v6
Lets say 30mpg
It's 19 years old
Tax costs £360 a year
I drive approx 3000 miles a year
Is in current working order
For the sake of argument I spend about £700 on average on maintenance a year (MOT, Servicing, etc)

How many miles would I need to drive before I start seeing a return on my outlay if I bought a second hand EV and got a home charging unit installed?

If you need anymore info just ask?
Is it a Ford Zephyr ? Cheezes have you thought about a Skoda?

I don't think as many posters are as anti EV as you think, but there are a significant number of people who are yet to be convinced that the current EV options are best for them. This doesn't make them anti EV, but due to cost, range perceptions, their lack of access to charging facilities or their own personal choice they have decided to wait.
If people were anti EV they would be calling for EVs to be banned.
