Good old Charlie Amer

Wasnt there a message from the chairman of the Alsatian Breeders monthly complaining about the Amers of this world around that time !

I would guess the programme is either 1975/6 or 1976/7

Amer went over the top of course, but some of punishments for violence was quite lenient in the mid 1970s and there didn't seem to be banning orders until the 1990s?

Trouble at games became worse and worse resulting in deaths at Ayresome Park in 1980 and of course many deaths at Heysel in 1985.

Wilf - your Geordie friend obviously, never went to Millwall in the good old days.:(

It was crazy times compared to today. The sight of policemen piling into the middle of the Holgate to make an arrest were common. Seeing those same policemen's helmets being tossed around the crowd was also quite common. Or people getting carried out around the cinder track, face down with a copper on each corner.

We hadn't won the Anglo-Scottish Cup when we played Man U in 1975/6 and Jack Charlton left at the end of the 76/7 season, so it can't be any later than that. 1976/7 it is then.

Am I misremembering but just before he resigned, wasn’t a coffin smuggled in to the Holgate with RIP Boro written on it? As a 14 year old I felt sorry for his German Shepards 🤣

I was working in Bootle a few years ago. The Scoucers all agreed Middlesbrough was the one game they were most nervous about. They even brought up York Races as hell on earth compared to Haycock.
