GIBSON'S GOT WHAT HE WANTED. . .

I guess, in answer to the OP we don’t know what Gibson wants.
The tricky bit is - what’s the plan he has put in place to achieve it?
If he has a plan to achieve what he wants it is difficult to see what it is.
Apparently there was an 'invitation only' love-in event the other night. I wonder if any of the invitees had the balls to ask similar questions 🤔

Gibson is a massive Tory so naturally is an awful person who lacks empathy and decency.

This however doesn’t make him a bad chairman.

As others have suggested tho he is likely to want a team pushing for promotion and getting to the Premiership.

I think we’d all agree the squad we have now is the weakest for some time.
It is likely Hackney and VDB will be next to go.

Depends what you mean by "some time."
Is it weaker than last season's? Undoubtably so I think. But it's also undoubtably stronger than Strachan's raggedy-ar$Ed mob of jocks and Woodgate's bunch, even with a whole heap of injuries.
As for where we'd be with all our players in a fit state enough to play to their potential, that's a matter open for debate. I'd reason, overlooking our season in the Prem of late for obvious reasons with the amount we could spend, that there's not actually many of our championship squads in the last 15 seasons stronger IF they were all fit. Karanka's squad that reached the playoffs and went up the next, last season's side and POSSIBLY/POSSIBLY NOT the Pulis side that finished 5th being the only examples IMHO.

The joint 4th strongest squad from our last 14 seasons in the champo is hardly what I'd call the weakest for some time. Unless of course by "for some time" you mean the last 18 months to 2 years.

The new model is slowly starting to work. It's to buy cheap and sell at a profit. That's to be more self sustable and ease FFP worries. That not to sell a player for 10mil and invest it all on new players. That's just business madness

It’s working if the plan was to make us a mid-table Championship club. which we now are. We didn’t need to throw £10 million at it but we’ve known since August we were light in striker options and we went into January with our only 2 forwards injured, so to come out the other side of the transfer window with no strikers in the matchday squad because we never addressed it is inexcusable.

**** off with your daft sh1te man.

He might have made mistakes but dear me, he got nowhere near what he wanted.

Grow up, chill out and stop being a 🔔 end.. I'm looking at the bigger picture for the future. The longer we stay in the championship, the harder it is to get out. Our 'model' is to be a sustainable club, which means no big spending on players to get us promoted. Our recruitment team is restricted by how much we have to spend, and that comes from the top. That's my point, so take your sunglasses off and you stop being a 🔔end

Every time we sell a player for good money, the cash always seems to get trousered. Or we replace one good player with two vastly inferior ones.

We seem to turn up one good player for every 15 we sign atm.

From a financial position it's not in his interests to get promoted either because of the amount he would have to spend, not only on rebuilding the team, but also the ground itself needs an update

That's an incredible statement. The only season in 15 years when MFC didn't lose money was the one season in the Prem League when the club did slightly better than break even.

The combined losses over those 15 years has been about £125 million.

Those are hard cash losses, not P&L engineering of depreciation. To keep the lights on, pay the bloke who cuts the grass, pay for maintaining the stadium, pay for the website, pay the players etc someone has to hand over cash to MFC to the value of the loss. That person is Steve Gibson. All he gets for his (roughly) £1 million a month is a season ticket.

But the feeling persists on here that he's somehow not putting in enough money. Or that he's taking money out of the club. Or that he benefits from MFC being in the Championship but wouldn't in the Prem League.

It's unbelievable. The only prospect of breaking even MFC has is to be in the Prem League. He's running MFC pretty much as a charity anyway (any rational person would call it a money pit) but people call for him to put in even more money.

No doubt those same people want cheaper tickets, 2 free pints, cheaper shirts and to sign half a dozen Mbappes every summer.

It's just unaffordable, both in terms of the losses, and FFP. So the model is now to buy young unproven players and try to develop them into a promotion winning team.

That's the model, it's what's happening, it's what will happen. If you don't agree then support Man City instead.

I think we just have to accept this as another season of consolidation. Injuries have blighted most of the season also which has had a huge impact on results. We all know the squad doesn’t have the flair and goal threat it had last season but we are in a position now to give it a proper go in the summer, and a suspect that was the plan all along. It’s going to be another big rebuild unfortunately but if recruitment can get things right then we should give a much better account of ourselves next season given that we will have more money to spend.
No one said it was easy being a Boro fan - if you don’t like it close the door on your way out - thanks 🤣

Today, I sat with my nephew in the lower west as opposed to my usual seating. The upper west. I could not get over the whinging and moaning of 3 'supporters' sat nearby. Constant criticism of the team and club ownership, talking as if we have millions to go out and spend and asking where the money from Tav, Spence and Rogers has gone. It took all my restraint not to remind these tards about FFP and the stance the club's owner has taken in respect of others who flagrantly breach these rules.

I am guessing they only came along in the glory years of premiership football... Which isn't their fault but you'd think they bothered to learn the history of the club and understand what a bad owner actually looks like!

A lady nearby took issue with them when they started booing Barlaser and shouting for the referee to send him off... With fans and experts like these I declined to listen to the BBC Tees moan in for the first time this season...

This was always going to be a transitional year given what we lost in the close season and I am certain the club are planning for next season with the Crooks MLS move and the sale of Rogers, as let's be honest it was a great deal for a player of his present standing. If his sale keeps the club on the right side of FFP, I will be happy with that and trust the club to bring in the right players for the club and our wage structure. Let's face it we have paid fortunes for mercenaries in the past and suffered the consequences which the chairman has had to deal with.

I'd rather be where we are now than where we were in May 86 or May 93.
We aren’t anywhere near the FFP limits, we could have brought a striker in January but chose not to, essentially writing the season off

but we are in a position now to give it a proper go in the summer,
Didn’t we say that last year I honestly think some on here are looking for signs that really aren’t there. Hope I’m wrong but I can’t see us spending what some think we will.

Clubs know we will sell at the drop is a hat so will raid us and selling clubs know we have money so the price goes up.

Where is this confidence coming from.

Would guess that’s up to the people who run the club, not me. Plenty of clubs have brought in strikers so not like none are available

And if their clubs don’t want to sell the strikers we want? Or quote a ridiculous fee? How far down the list do you go

Villa got Rogers 5 months after we signed him so what’s your point.

If you want a player go after them

Now we have no strikers not even on the bench. So how’s that’s not better than what we have when we don’t have anything.
