Gibbo and Houchen - fallen out

See, I can't see what all the fuss is about. Like Steve says, he's a swing voter and goes with what he thinks is best. Anybody who just votes for a party based solely on what they think they stand for is either blind or stupid.

This won't look good for Houchen, or the airport passenger numbers I expect, albeit too late to impact the numbers from previous. LogainAir pulled the Aberdeen flight.

Every time I've been to the airport (which isn't many) it seems the Aberdeen flight was one of the main ones, think it fly's nearly every day?
Oh do **** off with this let's whack the airport stick again cos its what Ben touched wanted. Everybody who uses it wanted it and its a fantastic airport. Maybe a labour Mayor could gave achieved the same for it but the only people I ever see slagging off Teesside airport are people that never use it.

Most people don't use it, that's the problem.

It's a money sink.

I'd love to be able to fly from it, but I've never found a flight that's cheap enough to outweigh the inconvenience of going to airports that are further away.

No it isn't. It's packed throughout 8 months of the year and still relatively busy the rest of the year with commuters to Europe and beyond who bring vital money back into the Teesside economy.
It loses money; you can't escape that fact and we all pay for it.

Its not packed 8 months a year, and its still costing the tax payer millions

I'm picturing Aztec Chimera wearing a pink scarf as he bashes his keyboard in support of a man of our times.

Its not packed 8 months of the year, its getting 20% of the numbers that Peel got at their peak. Its getting far less than before it was even sold to peel for a song and a promise of investment. It's getting less than Peel got up to 2009, which was after the financial crash decimated the travel industry - have a think on that. If it was packed 8 month of the year, where were the extra 800k passengers when it was reasonably busy? Airlines have regularly pulled routes or pulled out entirely.

most the benefits people say about the airport are based on it not being busy i.e no queues, quick check in.

those 2023 figures mean every single day of a 365 day year there are 620 people. 620 people, spread out over 7 or so flights a day doesn't equate to packed.

Do you think your tax payments would be spent elsewhere if we didn't have the airport and have you thought about the loss in revenue the teesside economy would have without it?
OK let's go and invest in teesside, how do I get there? Well we can fly to Necastle then somebody will pick us up. We'll what about Newcastle then. Seems a like a bit more sense instead of travelling down to Teesside.

Tell you what, just go there and see for yourself. Once you go through security there's barely a seat available during the holiday periods. It was never ever like that during the peel ownership and I've travelled through there very regularly since about 2003.

Which 8 months of the year is it packed? Its defenitely not April only 3 or 4 flights a day and will be even less when the Aberdeen flight stops. Newcastle has well over a 100. Teesside airport is a huge money pit no can argue about that.

Tbf ,Teesside was ranked 30th for number of flights in the UK last year. Beating both Dundee and City of Derry among others and not quite achieving the numbers for Norwich, Bournemouth and Sumburgh. 9 flights over the weekend, including 4 to Amsterdam, 1 each to Palma, Faro, Alicante, Aberdeen and Newcastle!!!

Probably because there’s not many seats.
Seems like you use airport a lot and having a local one benefits you quite a bit but most people don’t (as the numbers show). Maybe some people would consider tackling child poverty, crime, education, buses, trains etc as more important uses of public money

There are a lot of seats relative to the size of the airport. Yes I do use the airport a lot and I do have vested interest in it being available to me. I'm with you on crime, child poverty, education and probably a lot if other thing but let's take your argument on buses, count how many people you see on the next bus that goes past you or even the next train and apply the same logic that everyone is using as a stick to beat down teesside airport.

:)It’s Humberside Airport with a token sun flight

I suppose Peel did have the teleporters back then to allow people to get through security and appear directly on plains without making the airport appear busy. It's brilliant what you can do when you don't have to obey the laws of physics. I truly wonder how they managed 4x the amount of passengers without ever actually being busy yet its now packed out for 8 months of the year.
