Getting old

It is what it is as Mowbray used to say all too frequently. I'm 74 and going on my own to see the Brian Jonestown Massacre next week in Leeds students union, i'm bound to be the oldest there but won't feel self conscious
lol i am 15 years younger than you and going to see them on Friday in Belfast and was worried I'd be too old but feel much better now cheers!

Enjoy young 'un !

Not forgetting Big Alan Peacock his Partner up front, who also contributed 20 plus goals a Season. 60 plus between them. What a Partnership.
Big Al is STILL in attendance, even now.
Not to mention the wing supply lines or Bill Harris but Peacock was always tall, maybe very tall where as Clough was not more than average height.

You would think that Clough would have some advantage of height or speed but in reality he had neither. His one remarkable ability was to take a ball being passed up to him turn and hit the target all in one movement. You can argue it is similar to Messi but Clough used to start with his back to goal and somehow add acceleration also.

He was also absolutely ruthless in and around the penalty area and all the stories you hear about people being pushed out of the way are probable true - he was just focused on his "job"

If I remember rightly during his National Service the guy responsible for his Forces Football Team described big Al as the best "Centre Half" he had EVER seen.

BG I have some vague recollection of that - it is a long time ago. Unusually, for a tall guy he could jump as well

Billy Day on the right wing also distinguished himself in the Forces by becoming the 100 yards sprint champion - now he was out and out quick

He certainly was, during his National Service days he used to get special leave from his Unit in Germany to come home and play.
What a Forward Line that was, let down by one or two Crooks in defence.
It prompted Cloughie to ask after getting beat 7-6 by (If I remember rightly) Charlton, "if we get seven goals next week, I wonder if we'll get (at that time for a win) TWO points ?
What a great pity that that Forward line, Day, McClean, Clough, Peacock and Holliday, never graced the top flight.

I forget who the crooks were but I'm fairly sure they did get accused but I don't remember any great punishments'

Although a guy we signed form Stoke seems to ring a bell was it, Thompson ?.The others have faded into history for me. I might be doing Mr Thompson a great disservice too

The £50 forward line was magic in its day and three of them got international caps

I just did a poo and there wasn't any blood. That's a good day for me these days. I'm fifty one and I have the @rse of an eighty five year old.

You're not wrong. One of them is 'leading' The Labour Party at the moment.
Only two words to say to that, Doris Johnson ! Now there is someone who can talk shoite and Lie with the best of 'em, in spite of an extremely expensive Education.

What do you mean ‘in spite of’? I think the correct phrase is ‘thanks to’.
