Getting fit in your 40's

Got bored with the same routine - started using ready made indoor training videos from CTX Australia.
Good for interval training if anyone is interested.
Havent got the kit set up for Strava an all that.
Planet Rock up loud is a good motivator - in the background.:devilish:
Still hovering around 79 kilos and 33/34 waist.
Over 6200 km so far - indoors.
Hope other Covid - Beaters are doing well(y)

If it's any incentive to people thinking of trying it, if you're a bit fat from years of (over?) indulgence then any new excercise will probably result in fast weight loss.

Certainly pretty rapid at the start but, like EVIL pointed out - the added muscle weight and less fat means body weight will plateau. So long as you have a decent diet and keep up the exercise you remain fit and feel better for it.
Have found that "rest days" - or at least only a "recovery ride" day are important.

Still plagued by my niggly shoulder injury and so unable to do any proper mountain biking or strength work I've spent the last month or so having a good go at building some base fitness.

I've got into a routine of 5 training sessions a week:
A long easy flat ride.
A shorter hard ride where I get cracking and attack the hills.
A cross country ride. Mixed terrain.
A long easy row.
Intervals on the rower where I really push it hard.

I've made a rule of having 2 complete rest days a week and never training more than 3 days in a row and followed the protocol, which I think got posted on here, of making the hard days really hard and the easy days nice and easy with a max of 2 hard days/week.

It seems to be working well, I'm feeling like I'm getting a lot fitter doing this.

I find training on my own incredibly boring and I just can't stick with it. I like team sports for exercise. I play badminton twice a week and have done for about 6 years or so. Being 42, I've found that during lockdown, I put weight on. I like food and find it hard to deny myself something if I fancy it, so I've also done exercise to allow me to be, as the OP so eloquently put it, an undisciplined b****d. Combine it with cycling and I feel pretty good most of the time, but I'll never have the beach bod, its not what I strive for.
