Stuttgart player Silas Wamangituka was booked after slowly walking the ball into the net for a goal in their 2-0 win against Werder Bremen.

He took the mick a bit but I don't think he should have been booked.

I thought it was disgraceful- showing off, and certainly disrespectful towards Werder. A booking is the least he deserved.

Not a booking for me. Bit cringeworthy if anything, it's not like he got into that position with an audacious piece of skill or anything. It's a defensive blunder.

so he's come away looking like a bit of a nob, but not sure how it's a booking. It's within the rules isn't it?

How about when a keeper dribbles the ball slowly not picking up until a forward player challenges. Isn't that taking the pish too and happens on a regular basis?
That's worse as it happens in most games by most keepers. Then they dive on the ball to waste time.

Probably, I know if he did that against me (when I was a lot younger of course) I would be upset about it and would have plenty to say- there was absolutely no need for it.
Would it have the same impact on you if he blasts it into an open net from 2 yards?

Either way, he scores a goal.

Absolute b0ll0cks mate. You must have done that when you were a kid or had it done to your team. Or someone go through like that then kneel down and head it over the line. Its football (Jim but not as we know it);).
Where in the rules does it say you can't do that. Symptomatic of the nanny state/world we live in.

Defenders just stood and gawped and the keeper slow jogged back. There is nothing in the rules about how you should score, so the booking is dumb. I'd have sat on my backside and shuffled it in backwards if nobody was coming towards me.

Do you think he would have got a booking if the defender hadn't of got all upset about his team conceding. Maybe someone else should have got the booking.

Interesting thread this.

My first instinct was the ref has been ridiculous.

But thinking about it there is a lack of respect in football and a lot of bad behaviour, particularly at the top level, so anything which improves the way some of these players go on has to be good hasn’t it?

All the top managers over the years like Clough, Ferguson, Bobby Robson had high standards of player behaviour.

Not in the 'spirit' of how the game should be played, but not a bookable offence surely. Lets be honest here, many a cheat gets away with diving and are not booked now that's something a defender to get annoyed about.
