Well-known member
94 years old.

Shoot commentator, host of Tyne Tees’ Sports programme at 10.30 on a Friday night.

always seemed less than impartial commentating on Boro!

He was behind “Double Top” the TTTV darts programme.

Good age 94.
Always loved Double Top on a Friday night.
"Welcome to Double Top coming to you tonight from the Hartlepool Welfare Club, where we se them take on reigning Double Top champions Shilbottle WMC"

Great telly for a young kid.

kuepper...yes fine memories indeed. That position was a bit ramshackle as I remember. builder's scaffolding, a few boards accessed by means of a wooden ladder lashed to the framework! I think there were two cameras precariously balanced on the structure and it was on the Clive Road side of the bob end. I remember George actually climbing up there before one match resplendent in a light brown trenchcoat with those funny vents up the back... much to the encouragement ,or otherwise , of the crowd. It seems strange nowadays that the commentator would be sitting adjacent to the cameras rather than next to a monitor in the "warmth"! It was a pretty poor camera position as the action at the Holgate end was guessable especially when the smog was thickening up! RIP.

Anyone think he was always pro Newcastle United— kind of gave the impression that he disliked anything south of the Tyne. Nonetheless RIP.

Really sad news, but as said, a great innings. one many of us would gladly take.

RIP George, whoever you supported, they were lucky to have you in their camp. Say hi to my parents when you see them, my dad will be the one rambling on about Micky Fenton, Johnny Spuhler and Wilfy Mannion. God bless.

I was once at a Shoot match at the Boro and they had a camera around the pitch side , when a goal was scored they would take a shot of a sign with the two teams and the score. Thay must have super impossed the sign onto the current stand shot... very primitive I thought even back in the early 70s
