George Camsell is finally getting a statue

As soon as I saw the announcement, my first thought was that you'd been deflecting on here the whole time.

Good decision to ensure the plinths match too.
I almost found out by accident but was sworn to secrecy - which went to the extent of not telling Middlesbrough Council officers I was in a meeting with discussing the Brian Clough statue. But these kind of surprises are great aren't they. Makes it special when it is announced like this.
I think the statue unveiling is timed for family and friends to be in attendance and coordinated with Ali Brownlee 5k also that evening. It will have been planned before the Sunderland game was rearranged - but lovely that the family can see it first, that is his son, George Junior and the grandchildren, before one of Boro's biggest crowds of the season on Monday night.
George Junior once told me a Boro v Sunderland memory he had from his father - remind me and I will retell it again on that weekend,

Thank you! It didn’t go unnoticed. So happy that my Grandpa will be alongside Wilf and George where he belongs.
Thank you for your kind words - your grandpa was an incredible player and his record will never be beaten.

I hope you all have a great day when he is finally unveiled and he takes his rightful place among the other legends of our wonderful club.

I think we have enough statues at the Riverside…..mostly in defence.

Ba dum tish.

Great news! Congratulations to those involved 👍🏼

Looking at the photo - Was George Camsell naturally left footed?

Aren't Steve Agnew and Jordan Rhodes related to him as well?

Yes, just checked my book, the 1st game the three played together was on the 18th december 1937 a 2-1 home defeat to Bolton & guess who scored Boro's goal
Rechecked my Boro Bible and you’re right Erimus74👍
That Bolton match was indeed the first time that Camsell, Mannion and Hardwick played together. It was the Boro debuts for not only Gentleman George but also for winger Jackie Milne who had transferred in from Arsenal that week.
