Gary O'Neil

I get why Boro fans especially don’t like him but it’s a little odd to write him off based on events 12/13 years ago as a player when all the evidence suggests he’s knuckled down and really applied himself to get the most out of his coaching career.

I thought the post before this , well the majority suggested as a player we don’t like him, but despite this we are recognising he is doing a good job in the dug out.

Don’t see how that is writing his managerial career off

I'd guess most modern coaches, particularly at prem level, are doing similar things these days. We just don't usually get that level of insight as fans.

I'd actually question the wisdom of being so open about it mind. I suppose opposition teams will know what they do anyway given the level of analysis that goes into games. But still, why risk giving something away if you don't have to? Marginal advantages etc.

Doing it comes across as a tad narcissistic/showing off.

I seen the Brentford manager on sky a few weeks back doing something similar in regards to his own tactics.

Think it was Carragher mentioned something about giving to much away and his response was something along the lines of the amount of data and analysis that clubs do now they’re is no way they don’t already know this.

I meant as a man more than as a coach. A lot have questioned his work ethic and commitment. I get why but he’s clearly not that way now. Even with the booking, he said he would have had the 10th yellow and been banned anyway. He just timed it to get it out of the way when the golf was on. It’s unprofessional but not the same as getting yourself sent off on purpose or faking an injury which certainly has happened before.

Perhaps you cant represent him when he sues the Hartlepool Mail for defamation?

The Mail are only quoting his words though.
The question is whether he just made it up himself for a giggle, not whether a newspaper made it up.

I never thought that to be honest. I always thought he continued to work up and down the pitch for the full 90 mins.
He is really making his mark as a manager. To do it at two struggling Premier clubs is very impressive.

For me jogged about a bit made himself look busy, but never contributed that much to the team, would go missing and certainly never put himself on the line for the club.

Never wanted to be here and came and stayed for the money. If my memory is correct didnt he keep rejecting contract offers up until last minute before he eventually signed
