Just got back from seeing Garth Marenghi at the Sheffield Leadmill, and looking through Twitter on the way home I noticed that he’s in your neck of the woods on Friday. All I can say to anyone who may be going is that you’re in for a right treat. It’s a hilarious couple of hours. 👍🏻

I'm tempted to see this as I loved the TV series he made and I'm also currently listening to the pod cast.

Is it just him? Or is it like a typical acted show? Trying to see whether it's something my wife would enjoy.

It’s just him, but he gets a member of the audience up to moderate the Q&A.

He reads passages from the book and goes off on tangents from it doing bits of stand-up-type material. I was expecting it to be good but it went way beyond my expectations. I don’t think you need to ‘get’ that type of humour to find his show funny as it was just straight-up comedy. My partner has never seen Garth Marenghi’s Dark Place (I know it wouldn’t be her type of thing) but I know she would have been p1ss1ng herself had she gone to the show. 👍🏻

He is also very generous in regards to the book signing. Rather than just autographing your book (as Garth Marenghi, not Matthew Holness, though he’s told people on Twitter he’d sign as Matthew Holness as well) you get a post-it note to write down what message you want him to write.

I got my book signed to my son, I had…

I didn't realise this was a thing - thanks for the heads up (y)

Unfortunately, as far as I can see there are no upcoming dates in the South West (my neck of the woods).

He did Bristol on November 16th, but it looks like that was the only show in the South West.

How long is the show?
B31E4835-77AC-457F-B30F-235EE32B5100.jpeg These were the leadmill times. The Middlesbrough show may have a different start time but this is the running order.

Top tip: if you’re wanting a book signed try to get near the signing table as quick as you possibly can, as I queued for an hour and there was at least another half an hour’s worth of queue behind me. 👍🏻

I went to see him at the Leadmill as well. Very funny. The 'horrotica' he reads at the end was very lurid and funny. I can imagine that the q&a part with the audience is hit and miss depending on the night, but this worked really well at the Leadmill.

It wasn’t you who chaired the Q&A section was it, Brick? He had a North East accent 😀

Haha, no. I was sitting at the back. He was good, though. It's a risky business getting a random person on stage for so long but it worked well. Looks forward to reading the Terrortome trilogy at Christmas.

😀

He was good, to be fair. He did a far better job than I would have. 😊
