Gareth Southgate

I think i shall proved right

What do you think could prove you right?

If GS failed at MU, that would not mean he wasn't cut it to be a club manager. Some highly accomplished club managers have failed at MU in the last decade.

It would just provide further evidence hat MU are unmanageable just now.

Similar profile to the England job. Poisoned chalice, people would have low expectations of him because he has the intellect and calmness of a coveted “cool foreign manager” but just isn’t one. They had low expectations of him for England too, which helped him.

I think he might do ok, but realistically until the City stuff is sorted out I can’t see anyone beating them to the the PL title.

If he does go to United I hope they play better brand of football than England does

That’ll be the England team who’ve scored 37 goals in their last 3 major tournaments? The most we’d ever scored at a World Cup (2018), then the most we’d ever scored at a Euros, then we beat the record for World Cup goals in 2022.
The idea he plays dull defensively football is just a lazy untrue cliche, repeated by people who don’t know much about football but say what they’ve heard other people say.

Just think how many they’d have scored if Sam was still in charge for the last 8 years!

If England do really well are we sure he’d move on, if England don’t do well are we sure MU would want him. Not sure I’m seeing it either way.

Seems a sweeping conclusion based on his one previous experience
I’ve got more badges than Southgate had when he took charge of Middlesbrough. He literally zero coaching experience. I can’t think of a single
Top flight manager that hasn’t at least had a year as a coach somewhere

Ridiculous statement
It is a silly statement.

Southgate has proven himself to be a very accomplished manager anyone that can get a midfield of Henderson-Alli-Lingard to a World Cup semi has talent, regardless who you play on the way. Anyone that can get an England squad to pull in the same direction has excellent man management skills. He builds a culture and given time and the backing to get bad apples out of a club he’ll do well.

I'd argue that GS's England has consistently played more attractive, positive football than any England maanger I can remember.

Sure, there were flashes under Robson and TV, but not more than a couple of games in their tenures.
Agreed, the red top nonsense about negative football and picking two defensive midfielders is ignorant and wrong. The print media were behind Southgate….right until he supported taking the knee, I stand by my conclusion that he is a victim of the right wing obsessions with culture war. He’s empathic, honest, professional, inclusive, intelligent, articulate, he’s everything that the shills and chancers that make up the right wing populists despise. I mean Lawrence fox, joey Barton, Nigel Farage, Katy Hopkins, Matt le tissier…..they all hate Southgate, all have publically slated him, Dailly Mail, The Sun, Torygraph all run articles to whip up hate against him

Who are the BFS type players that would be playing for England now, Philips and Henderson are right up his street so no change, other than Rice wouldn’t get a look in. Tarkowski and Dunk at the back. McNeil would be his lob it in the box winger. Carlton Morris and Calvert-Lewis his bully CFs, it would have been horrific

Simon Jordan too

He surely wouldn’t have left out the likes of Kane and Bellingham in truth.

Apparently though, this squad is being held back by Southgate. Allardyce would have known exactly how to get a tune out of Saka and Foden.

Yes but the ball would be bypassing Bellingham and Kane would have to improve his heading from deep and early crosses, either that or Kieffer Moore would have received a brown envelope to convince him to turn his back on Wales and play for England and Kane would have had to sit on the bench

Not saying Southgate isn't a good manager, he's done well, more than any other manager in a long time. But the type of football sends me to sleep, the players we have at our disposal we should be steam rolling teams who are far inferior to us, alot of games we kind of just get by, that's my opinion and I won't be swayed, watching England is boring, that said if we win the Euros playing boring football I'm all for it, just wish we would play with abit of excitement that gets fans cheering.

Typical modern day person

‘even if you present me with facts I will not be swayed, my opinion is my opinion’

I don’t have a problem with people debating, but to say your can’t be swayed when the facts tell a different story… then you are saying you are not looking for debate

You should probably look for another sport truth be told

I know the comments tongue in cheek but his Bolton team had players like Okocha and djorkaeff in them who were skillful players.

As for Southgate I hope he wouldn’t go to Man U, I don’t think it would end up being a success. That’s only because I can’t see anyone they appoint being a success in the fans eyes, a lot of them will expect a title challenge and latter stages of the champions league which they are miles off.
