Sounds like a Gannett but I did see a few tern doing similar off Saltburn pier recentlyNot sure?
They looked pretty big compared to the other stuff that was flying about?
They were soaring up quite high, then about turning into a dive at the top of the climb and hitting the water like a dart
Could have been a big toad ?I once saw a Pelican in Fairydell. Or at least I thought it was a Pelican, it had one of those massive tub-like beaks and it was F***ing huge.
I know nowt about birds though, our lass told me they’re not native to England but I definitely saw it. Either that or I was off my lips on Mushrooms.

I've seen both terns and gannets just off Sandsend in the past week or so, so both are about. You'll also be able to tell by the size of the splash (gannets are huge) and the black-tipped wings a gannet possesses.You sure they are not terns ??
