Future of Commercial Property Market

Clearly laughing your clients view is that at times they want to “handle the goods” they are paying for and that means seeing you in the flesh. I just wonder if they will now take a different approach going forward.
If anything this crisis will alter the way we work, travel, eat, drink and socialise. What was once habitual practice like handshakes, cheek kisses and cramming into small meeting rooms will be no more.

Do posters remember when it was said people would not long term fly as much after 9/11. For 6 months they did not then it went back to normal and flying even increased long term. There are terrible environmental effects in flying, but people have been doing it in increasing numbers until the last 2 months.

I think there is a bit of short term hype with working from home. it will increase over the medium to long term but nothing like it has at present. Psychologically those in charge don't like it in general, and they make the decisions. If it did take off it would help areas like Teesside imo where house prices are cheap. Why live in say Croydon where house prices are £450k when you could live next the National Park in Guisborough for £150k in the same house, if job prospects and pay were the same?

Like the way you described that and it has an element fo the truth to it.

I suspect, eventually, travel will reduce, but clients will still want you on site occassionally, just not as often.

On a general coming out of lockdown the segment of the population who are most at risk also have the greatest amount of savings. If this population feel their mortality is at threat or should I say duress going forward how will they react in general? I’m talking about the over 65s. Will they spend spend spend and go on long holidays buy nice cars etc or will the opposite happen and they remain in self lockdown and continue to avoid spending?

I don't think they will be going on cruises for a couple of years - its odds on, there will be second spike at some stage and if its like it was a month ago, a cruise ship is the last place you would want to be. Maybe luxury breaks (not at sea) closer to home will do well from August onwards. I also predict spending on grandkids will increase, particularly any that need to buy their own property. Also looking at better care facilities for themselves.

It is sad when you see people who have worked hard for their retirement and then be caught by the virus before they can enjoy their retirement. There was a guy on a BBC documentary last night about the Royal Free Hospital in CV19 crisis, he was an accountant born in 1947 and still working, but the virus sadly took his life. He seemed healthy both physically and mentally until the virus came.
