Offer him a contract. If he's not willing to sign got to sell as his contact will run down.I know wile he is here he can help try and get us promoted but that's not set in stone. He will be replaceable just as Tav was.

There was chatter on here about him and Tav being asked last summer to give us one more year, they both must have wanted a move if that was the case, it may have been bollox though.

I wonder if some sort of negotiations are underway?

Fry is a product of the academy and unlike tav is also a boro lad so his motivation may be a lot different.

I'd sell as he's clearly not Wilder's first choice in the middle of the back three. The only stipulation being that we get Greaves in first.

The money could be very useful, and if injuries / suspensions do hit, I'm sure we could assemble a temporary back three from the following:

Lehihan
Bola
McNair
Dijksteel
Smith
Greaves?

Not mobile enough or good enough drilling the ball out of defence for Wilder which is a shame as he is a good stopper ...

Or not. Players and fans have a completely different outlook to the game, as we've seen with just about every local lad that's come through the ranks.

I don't think Fry is a Premier League standard defender but he himself may. I think he may have to wait for a struggling club in January though.

If that's so he will sign.Or will he?
The vibe I have always got from Fry is he’s never been on a rush to leave the club and has always hoped to get promoted here and probably stay here for the Majority of his career. This thought process will now be testing for him as he’s probably not first choice any more and if there is interest from elsewhere it’s only natural for him to consider it.

No doubt he loves the club and is loyal local lad.But the club doesn't play in the prem and he can stay year after year trying to get promoted but if that never happens who would blame him if a prem club came in for him and he'd be of . Especially if he's not getting much support from the current manager. His contact is running down I don't think we can hang about to long

I noted on another Dael Fry thread the other day... I was talking to Dael in Starbucks on Cargo Fleet Lane last week.

Chatted for a few minutes about the Boro. Now, what he says to me could be absolute codswallop and far from reality, but he said he's not going anywhere, although there has been interest in him this summer. He said he is staying put and will be fighting for his consistent place back in the team.

Not sure where people are drawing that from? The three CB slots seem to be "up for grabs" at the moment. I guess he isn't "guaranteed" a start and remember he wasn't available from day one and may be behind in fitness? Dunno but the assumption that he is not first choice is just that. If we look at the Sheff Utd game I thought the defence operated pretty well apart from the slow start (which is a worrying habit across the whole team) but after the shock of conceding early we pretty much contained a physical SUFC side and it was noticeable in Fry's absence that their aerial threat was enhanced.

Jury still out for me. As Man Utd's dwarf CB demonstrated sometimes there is no substitute for a good big un.

That’s fair I would say but I think if Lenihan starts to play how he has done for Blackburn he will be first choice but of course Fry can push him and if he’s prepared to stay and fight for his place then brilliant.

I don't like this idea. If you look at that list there is only one actual CB on there. The rest are full backs. If Lenihan is out we have nobody that plays the central role. We had Bamba last year who was happy to not be involved every week but do a job when needed. We don't have anyone to do that if Lenihan is out and we let Fry go without bringing in another Bamba type CB.

There is also the bigger picture to think about. Do we really want to have a squad that con only play one specific way? I am very happy with Wilder being our manager but what if he has a bad few months and we end up getting rid, or a good few months and his head gets turned by a PL club again? We will be stuck with a squad that plays a very specific way. Most of the players could adapt, a striker is a striker, a midfielder is a midfielder etc but having a squad full of full backs and no centre backs for a manager that wants to play 4 at the back might be a struggle.

If he stays he will go from a 20m rated player down to 5m or a free as wilder doesn't seem to rate him like we do.
