Pure class RF. Brought life back to the ground.
I suppose I did my “hardcore” supporting 1996-2008, then tailed off with living away. Remember the stadium being a proper library with about 7 people singing in the north stand around 2007, then after missing a few years, I vividly remember my first home game back in the South West with the “nutters with the drum”. I loved it straightaway, was brilliant to see what a handful of fans who are committed to making an atmosphere can do. I am the sort of fan who likes to stand up and sing and have a laugh though, for me that’s the difference between going and watching it on TV.
Also remember that letter going out to them from the club’s OH&S team warning them about “constant noise”, absolute embarrassment!
It’s a new generation with new songs and a slightly different vibe to the support I grew up with, but they’ve made the matchday experience so much more vibrant from day one. If I was 20, I’d be right in the middle of it for sure.
I also admire them for sticking at it and creating a proper fan movement - about 20 lads to 3000 packing out the south stand now, it’s the hot ticket - despite the sometimes hostile attitude of the club and other supporters.
Palace’s ultras are the same, they’re a relatively new thing but they have that ground bouncing.
