But NW was leaving at the end of the season. A new manager who Boro had identified was on other clubs radars. We had to move fast, and did. That's football
exactly, we've ripped the grass up 6 months early, but it always needed ripping up and starting again. Is Wilder the right man? I don't know, but he is the man we identified so had to make the decision a little earlier than anticipated. It gives Wilder a free hit to save the Warnock clusterfook of a season. If he fails, he gets 2 transfer windows and 25 games to build the squad, and coach the squad to play his way before we start to see improvement.

Doesn't mean he can't do it this year but it's a free hit for him as far as I can see.

I would expect Wilder has been appointed with the expectation of getting in or close to the play offs. Bringing him in now gives him plenty of time to turn it around. I for one will be very disappointed if this season is already getting ready to be one off transition and we see excuses about needing more players in January/next summer being trotted out again!

As I posted the other day, we were about 4 defeats in the next 4 games away from play offs being unobtainable.

He's been left a difficult task, because if we have a squad good enough to reach the play offs, we should be higher up the table, and we could win our next 3 games and still be just outside the play offs due to the amount of teams above us. He then needs to attain 1.7 points per game after clawing us back into contention.

It's far from impossible but he's starting with a harder job than Warnock had at the beginning of the season, when everyone was on 0 points. If he falls just short then he can say, if I had been here all season we would be in the play offs...that's why it's a free hit

Don't some of their fans have a dislike for him as he apparently hung around demanding a big pay off? No idea if it's true but it was what their owners alleged.
