Free Agents

Andre Gray wouldn't be the worst free* option in the world.

Yeah I know he hates the gays and wants them all to burn in hell, but he scores goals in the Championship

*Wages may be an issue. Also I was being sarcastic about the gay burning

That has to be one of the worst free agents list for quite a few years.

I wouldn't take any of the midfielders or attackers.

Defenders aren't that bad though.

To pad out the bench I'd take Bertrand, Tuanzebe, Cathcart and... Fisher.

I mentioned getting Phil Jones on loan when Carrick took over and some folk on here chortled at it. Without knowing too much about current fitness or match sharpness, I didn't think it would have been a bad shout to get some experience at the back.

Phil Jones hasn't played football for 4 years and even before that he's never played a full season. He's only played 30 games twice in his entire career. He was also on £75k per week at Utd and I know he's now on nothing but I think people forget how little we can afford to pay compared to the PL. Why would a multi-millionaire, who clearly has no strong desire to play regularly, would bother playing championship football for relatively no financial benefit to them.

The finances in football has moved on so far that championship clubs can't afford to take risks on perma-crocks like Jones. They just wouldn't accept the wages we could offer.

If we had scope in the budget and wouldn't affect any potential plans for the January window, I may be tempted with;

Tuanzebe - I thought he did well against us last season, however I think he is injury prone and hasnt played a lot of football.

Freeman - Again not if it would remotely affect future plans financially, but technically he was always pretty decent - however I may be living off memories of his QPR days!

Ayew - Purely because we are potentially light in that area. Short term deal, for a seasoned international?

I do get what you're saying though, I didn't think it was the worst suggestion we've had in recent years.
