Fraud

Dangerous game to play but feels a bit harsh considering what some people do and don’t end up in prison.

It's funny the types of people you manage to find sympathy for.

Contempt of court is rightly treated as a serious offence.

Were you not expressing sympathy the other day for the alleged perpetrators of bullying in the workplace, on the basis that the woman was making false claims that could have ruined the lives of those she was complaining about? Yet here you are defending people that have made false claims that could have ruined the lives of those they made up the complaints about.

Anyone who knowingly and deliberately decides to throw innocent people under the bus in pursuit of personal monetary gain should be locked up. It really is that simple for me.

I’m not defending them - clearly it’s wrong - I’m simply expressing my surprise that they ended up in prison for it. There is a programme I’m watching on a Monday which follows the POLIT team which catches online paedophiles - these guys can be caught with numerous images and inciting abuse against kids as young as eight yet one of the perpetrators this week didn’t end up in prison. With that programme in mind I was shocked that someone could end up in prison for insurance fraud whilst a paedophile does not.

Simple answer to that - jail the paedophile as well, not that one has anything to do with the other.

Any suggestion that a group of people that have admitted to being caught in a brazen attempt at fraud should not face jail is preposterous. In my view, 4 months is getting off lightly, but at least it serves as some kind of deterrent to other low life scum who think they can steal with impunity.

I couldn’t agree with you more. I appreciate they are not linked it’s just I wasn’t aware that fraud was deemed as such a serious crime. Another comparison would be burglary - I’ve lost count of the times where I’ve read a news article where the perpetrator has committed dozens of burglaries yet still avoids a custodial sentence. There are many crimes where I think the seriousness and impact on the victim should lead to a custodial sentence but doesn’t.

do you think this family committing the fraud had prior convictions and criminal records - or is fraud something that you can go straight to jail for?
