Former Manchester City and England striker Francis Lee has died, aged 79.

Lee scored 148 goals in 330 appearances during an eight-year spell at City, helping the club win multiple honours, including the old First Division title in 1968.
Lee, who started his career at Bolton Wanderers, joined Derby County from City, helping the Rams win their second league title in 1975.

He also earned 27 caps for England, scoring 10 goals.

"It is with the deepest sadness and heaviest of hearts we announce the passing of former Manchester City player and chairman Francis Lee, aged 79," a City statement read.

The club said Lee died on Monday morning after a long fight against cancer.

Watched him live a few times at Ayersome Park and seem to remember him throwing one of his dives in for a penalty. Lee was always disliked by the opposition fans but loved by his own.

He moved into horse racing when he retired and owned and trained horses.

Another footballing star gone from my childhood.

RIP

Rather non-PC epithet he had at the time "Lee One Pen - the Chinese diver"

Proper character and as the "exchange" with dear old Norman in the video above shows not shy of the physical stuff. RIP

He was part of a fantastic Manchester city team way back when.
They were great team to watch.
Team mates included Tony Book, Mike Summerbee and Colin Bell, to name just a few.

A wonderful footballing team. Joe Mercer as manager and Malcolm Allison as coach.
