Forss

Struggling to see how Jones gets back in now to be honest. Even at his best from last year I'm not convinced he'd add more given the way the team plays now than Forss.

Still hope he has a future here though, even if it's just rotation or to cause bother against tiring opponents.

Our forward 3 of Akpom, Archer and Forss are seriously impressive at this level. There's goals throughout this team with McGree contributing from midfield. When was the last time we could say that 🤔

Very cool for the assist, a lesser player just pings that ball across the six yard box.

Must admit he's a much more savvy player than I was expecting - he actually gets away with quite a lot (think he ran their FB off the pitch first half) and a few other niggly little fouls. It's the one thing lacking from our game to be honest but he does it so intelligently he rarely gets picked up for it.

Actually there were top quality battling displays all across our team last night. If we can add physicality and aggression to our footballing chops very few teams will land a glove on us.

It was a great decision by Carrick to play him out wide. Carrick is all about scoring goals and he quickly recognised that there was more chance of us scoring goals with Forss out wide, rather than Jones who was struggling.
I was at the Hibs friendly when Carrick tried Finch in the role that Forss is now playing. I get the impression that Carrick has settled on playing narrower on the right so we can go wider on the left which means Forss is, as it turns out, a better fit for that than Jones. I think even without having a new baby, that Ramsey may be preferred there instead of Jones because Ramsey seems more natural there. One problem that Jones will face getting back in the team is that we don't play with orthodox wingers and I think Jones is struggling, in part, to adapt.

The narrower play up top also allows the full backs to bomb on and support the attacks. It can more dangerous if we lose the ball and sides play through us, but how many times do we just suffocate teams and win the ball straight back?

With so many players in advanced positions, we play those little triangles until we prize an opening or get somebody in space.

This is where McGree comes into his own as he just pops up everywhere and is a constant pain to pick up. Then the likes of Chuba / Archer / Forss will often drop back to cover when out of possession.

Movement all over the pitch. Everybody doing a job for the team in and out of possession. You can see why most sides have struggled to contain us in the last few months. Long may it continue!

He won’t get the headlines tonight but what a player he looks under Carrick. Fantastic in that first half once again, not bad for a development player
Loved his energy and his fight, and he was so crucial for Chuba's goal.

It's storage as when he came I thought he was going to be a finisher, but this looks like one area he either needs to improve or needs more confidence, but to make up for this he's excelling in areas I did not expect him to.

OVerall very happy, and he's only going to get better under Carrick, like they all are.

When he first played out wide it seemed like a temporary fix, and I thought ok maybe his goal threat will hopefully balance out his lack of creativity. Gradually though his all round game is getting better and better, he's quite tough and an do a bit of everything. Loved the way he got his head down and ran at them for the first

100% our movement across the front four is excellent and the main reason we look so good in attack imo.

Noticed first half Archer popping up wide left to create space in channel for McGree. The vertical movement is also really difficult to defend against - if Archer drops deep and swaps with Akpom do the centre halves follow (risky as it breaks the line), pass over to the midfield (requires excellent reading of play and comms) or let them (and risk us carving them open).

No obvious answers really as a man for man job just creates space for our other attackers.

I think we got misled by the term "finisher." I reckon he's the best striker of the ball at the club. He shoots with power, precision, both feet and minimal backlift. I suspect he's also the best penalty taker. He doesn't seem to be much of a poacher.

Archer looks to be the best at 1 on 1's. It'll be interesting to see what other arrows Archer has in his quiver. So far his goals have been quite similar.

Akpom and Crooks are real poachers; their movement and anticipation in the box is 1st class. Akpom has also shown that he probably has the best shooting technique in the club with the ability to curl a shot with real precision. Not to mention his ability to make space for himself in the box. Given that Akpom is also decent at 1 on 1's he's undoubtedly the best all rounder at the club. From the looks of it, though, he needs to be kept away from penalties.

McGree is the best at worldies and bad 'taches.

Yes, I 100% agree. He's a fantastic striker of the ball, and know what you mean about the backlift, he can dig the ball out from under his feet and hit it cleanly, sometimes too cleanly. I can see how he could do major damage once he finds his feet and gets confidence. Carrick's building him up well, and he could end up up top if we don't retain Archer after the loan ends.

Archer's lethal when he gets beyond the man, which he will get plenty of with that speed. He will get more chances like that against the better teams too, who push up on at us. We've a lot of games coming up where teams will sit back and try and hit us on the break, so will be interesting to see how Archer handles having less space.

Akpom's excellent at finding that no 10 space, the area in the box between the defenders higher and midfielders behind him, it's so crucial to get goals from there. It's the position Crook's used to get goals from in a different way, but harder for Crooks as not as technical or as fit. Akpom's different gravy now, it's unreal the change we've seen in him this season, he's really clicked, not sure what he's been eating over in Greece or pre season but please give him more.

Mad how McGree can pick out a worldie then fluff the simple one's. He needs to lose that tache, no self respecting quality player is allowed a tache like that.

Forss got the tackle in that lead to the third goal. Although I would say it wasn't a normal tackle in hacking at the player , it was controlled attempt to block the path of the ball and put it back the other way . When their move started he was usual position on the right but his intervention was in our half of the center circle. Good tracking to come inside and be part of the block. After that Hackney was free to advance with the ball, one pass to the 'Archer' and we effectively took the heart out of them to respond further. Top lad Forss
