Forgive me for being presumptious and speculating without any facts: does Ravel Morrison have some kind of issues with his attitude / approach to the game or some underlying health concern, which prohibits true expression of his obvious talent?
The reason I ask is that he keeps getting fresh starts, so there has to be something Managers see in him, but he moves on so quickly - is that a sign of under-performing, low-confidence?

He has ADHD and struggles with focus and concentration which means he forgets instructions very soon after being given them. He has natural talent and ability but is not fully able to express it in a match. Sad as such promise to be a great player.

That explains a great deal.
Thank you very much. (y)
Initially I didnt want to suggest he had a neurological issue as it is, of course, a sensitive issue.

Its a relevant question and clearly he had sufficient concentration and focus as a youngster, to deal with his ADHD and still express his talent.

The issue is that a chain of perceived lack of success [in terms of achievement] can result in low self-esteem and confidence. Depressive episodes may also be symptomatic of perceived "failure". Non - concordance with medication can also exacerbate the issues and lead to sleep disorders, poor concentration and inability to follow "instructions" / procedures.

Football has a problem with the basics at the moment - its only just out the cave with racism / long term neurological injuries heading the ball, etc - so neurological issues such as understanding ADHD are many light years into the future.......

I feel empathy for the lad - it cant be easy.

Still don't get it, he's never going to make it, how many clubs have tried? Must be well into double figures.
Lads obviously a gifted player but is unable to transfer that onto the pitch.
Great shame but fact.

Listing to Warnock after the Stoke game he said Spence forgets instructions. We changed formation because Spence 'forgot' everything they'd worked on in the week😂

Jokes aside. Morrison must be running out of chances? He's gonna be retired at 30. He's not the first and won't be the last to fail despite talent.

ADHD has to be a real issue in normal life never mind a footballer. If you can't remember instructions then how can you even be a footballer?

I almost think he should just join a 3rd division side and enjoy is football without as much pressure. Just go and play 30 games (he's only played over 20 once in his career). Then again not remembering instructions is a relivent in the lower leagues.

"Not remembering instructions" in relation to ADHD is not a matter of being "forgetful" - its symptomatic of the condition.
Its not disimilar to other neurological conditions where cognition is impaired. Its a serious issue.
He`s done well to get this far.

My understanding is that he is not allowed to take the medicine he was prescribed and play football because of doping rules.
Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE), requires athlete to demonstrate that they can satisfy strict criteria for TUE approval. I mean.. if he has the diagnoses.. he's part of the way there.

TUEs are issued to athletes to permit them to use prohibited substances or methods due to their particular situation.

One player* reportedly tested positive for the banned substance methylphenidate, often sold under the trade name Ritalin.

The stimulant medication is most commonly used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy.

Yet methylphenidate may enhance power, strength or stamina leading to its place on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) banned list.

However, WADA state that a TUE can be granted in a 'well-documented and long-standing diagnosis' case of ADHD for up to four years at a time.

The UKAD handed out eight TUEs in the 2019-20 season while UEFA granted five additional ones to players featuring in Europe.

*I would not be surprised if the player in question was Ravel Morrison playing for Sheffield United in the 2019-20 season. Maybe the positive result led to a question mark over his suitability in the squad?

Former Manchester United youngster Ravel Morrison is training with Derby County.

The 28-year-old attacking midfielder is a free agent after his contract with Dutch club ADO Den Haag was terminated by mutual agreement in January.

He was linked with Derby last season and Rams boss Wayne Rooney knows Morrison from his time at Old Trafford and is a big admirer of the player's talent.

Rooney said at the time: "I think I am happy with the squad I have got. We have got a good squad of players. I hope Ravel finds a club which he deserves because he is a fantastic player and I wish him all the best."

Morrison trained at Moor Farm today (Monday) and he has travelled with the squad to a training camp down south where Derby will spend the week ahead of Sunday's pre-season game against Man United at Pride Park Stadium.

The former England Under-21 international has also had spells at West Ham United, Birmingham City, Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff City, Lazio, Sheffield United, Middlesbrough and Ostersund.

Derby are currently operating under a transfer embargo.

Free agents Phil Jagielka, Richard Stearman and Ryan Allsop are training with the Rams and Rooney is hoping he will be able to add to his squad soon.

"I’ve spoken to a lot of players who are eager to come here and join the club,” Rooney told RamsTV.

“Unfortunately, at the minute, I’m not in a position to finalise any of them, but hopefully in the near future I’ll be able to."
