It seems the Forest fans think the problem was Warnock`s "attitude" not Spence!

Nottingham Forest fans respond to Neil Warnock comments on Djed Spence transfer

The Middlesbrough loanee has excelled at the City Ground and become a key part of Steve Cooper's team

Neil Warnock's comments about Djed Spence's loan move have certainly got Nottingham Forest fans talking.

Former Middlesbrough boss Warnock has said that he sent Spence out on loan to "sort himself out."

Spence, 21, arrived at the City Ground in September for the remainder of the Championship season and the Reds faithful could not be more pleased with him.

Speaking of the decision to loan Spence, Warnock said during an interview with talkSPORT breakfast show: "I let him go. He needed to sort himself out, really.

"I basically said to him that you can go to the top or you can go non-league.

"I think Steve Cooper is the manager for him, to be honest. He has let him go forward more often, which suits his game."

Spence has since caught the eye on Trentside with 21 appearances under his belt and an impressive display against Premier League side Arsenal in the FA Cup last time out.

Boro boss Chris Wilder, who replaced Warnock, has kept his eye on the youngster and recently suggested he might recall Spence during the transfer window.

However, both clubs have since come to an agreement that the full-back will remain at Forest until the season concludes.

Here is how the Forest fans reacted to Warnock's comments on our Facebook page...

Andrew Marriott: "Clearly Neil Warnock didn't know how to manage him whereas Steve Cooper does. Steve is bringing about the best in Djed, he is happy at the City Ground and his performances reflect that."

Grant Fellows: "Just been superb at Forest gives his all every game, seems at home shame we won't keep him unless we get promoted. Not a whisper of a bad attitude, maybe it was Colin's attitude that was the problem."

Craig Jones: "All that is wrong with Warnock... 'he likes to get forward which suits his game'. So basically he didn't like boring football."

Michael Farnsworth: "Got the potential to be better than Cash!"

David Bentley: "I don't think Warnock's man management style suited Spence's character, whilst he's in good form currently, the time to see if he has matured will be when his form dips, how he handles it, in the meantime his valuation will rocket, he no doubt will end up in the Prem in the summer."

Rob Stoke: "Djed likes to attack… didn’t stand a chance lol."

Adrian Hatton: "Every player is amazing under Coops."

Ryan Tobin: "As if Warnock told him there’s a non league option!"

David Worley: "He is very good, I want him on the wing."

Steven Hemsley: "Been good for us, looks a decent player."

Richard Leonard: "I think the longer we don’t try to buy this player, the higher the fee will be. The Boro full back is apparently better means they will sell him. No point waiting. Sign him up with huge sell on fee..."

Mark Jackson: "To be fair, a lot of it is about style of play in a flat back four he would be a fullback and maybe doesn't suit his game with three centre backs and two (sort of) defensive midfielders it gives him more licence to get forward. He could possibly be a decent winger with his pace to be fair. It's also down to a manager's instructions, prime example Ryan Yates (og against Boro aside) it's almost as if previous managers told him to pay sideways and not venture forward, the cross of the goal showed what he can do if allowed to play his own game."

Craig Gall: "Different style of play and formation, some players don't fit!"

Craig Knight: "Warnock claiming credit..."

He's a young lad.. there was something Woodgate didn't like when he got that new contract.. acting like he'd already made it or word to that effect. Warnock said he saw him playing further up the pitch and preferred 'proper fullbacks' in his defence. Warnock stated he could go all the way to the top and sent him out on loan to prove himself.. probably for the best if he's burnt his bridges a little bit here. Nothing wrong with making mistakes as long as you learn from them. Nicholas Anelka always seemed to have a cloud around him regarding attitude and temperament he went on record to say the same whilst at Arsenal. When he left he pulled his socks up and kicked on. Looks to me like that has happened with Djed.. a fresh chance to really show what he is made of. He left Fulham because he couldn't see a way past the Segnesson brothers.. not a bad attitude to have with wanting to move in order to get more games under his belt and progress his career. Maybe he felt like he should have been played a lot more, respected and revered as the player that he might very well turn out to be.

I wish him the best of luck. I hope he does well for Forrest and would be more than happy to see him back here next season. I think a move may well be on the cards for Djed in the summer.. we'll just have to wait and see.

To be fair Warnock did say that forest and cooper would suit him more as less emphasis on defending.

I think that was always an issue. Warnock likes a fullback to defend more than get forward.

That's why he would probably be amazing under Wilder😂

We don't know Spence. The 'attitude' claim was mentioned as to why Fulham got rid and both Woodgate and Warnock have commented about him not listing etc. So I can't not be a 'thing'.

It definitely seems there was an issue with him, mostly when he wasn't playing it seems, a negative influence in the dressing room.

Plus there are rumours that some of his mates caused problems, when they came up to stay with him, problems which apparently are continuing.

Given everything a loan was seemingly the best option at the time and its worked out exactly that way. The club has made some cash, his market value has soared and he seems to have switched his head on.

It's a win/win for everyone isn't is?

Yep the better he plays, the more profile, the more money we'll receive

Saying that next summer when he returns he'll be in the final 12 months of his contract, will that work against us money wise?

Probably, unless there's the opportunity for an extension built in, but regardless we'll get a decent fee I think.

Its an article in the Nottingham Post - the local rag which butters up Forest - so it has to curry favour. [or is that "flavour"].
Either way - it has put Spence in the window and hopefully we get some decent offers in the summer...
Mr Christopher Wilder [Sir] appears to know exactly who he wants, so lets leave it to him.(y)

Cant wait for Saturday.
Every match, the expectations seem to rise and so far - [with the exception of Mansfield] Boro have delivered.
This Balogun fella is class - looking forward to see Wilder`s formation and who he puts in the starting squad.
Expect a 1-0 against Reading - although on form we should bray them.

Warnock is claiming credit for giving Forest one of the best players in the Championship and their stand out performer so far. That’s what.

To be fair though, he's only been there a few months. He was good here for the first few months then seemed to go downhill. There's plenty of time for him to revert to type. It happens a lot in football. A couple of results go against Forest and see what happens. I was more than happy for him to stay here, though I think it was because of his potential rather than how he was actually playing at the time.

Lets not forgot there was plenty on here prepared to 'drive him there themselves' etc....

I'm assuming that Warnock isn't claiming that he sent him to Forest because Cooper would be his manager. If so then you would have thought he would have been able to forsee his sacking on day of West Brom game

Find it odd too
Forest would have wanted him tied down for the remainder of the season than potentially losing him at the end of the month
So did I. Really strange. Personally it would be great news to add him back to the fold rather than sell him but given we have transfer activity to fund......

I would have thought we could recall him until the end of the transfer window? Couldn't play for anyone else though until the summer could he?
