For fans of Radiohead, The National, Bon Iver etc…

It just sounds like another contender for great song blanded for a John Lewis Christmas ad.
Each to their own though, that's the great thing about music.
Yeah can’t say I remotely enjoyed that cover, either. Was the least Radiohead, Radiohead thing I’ve heard since that god awful high and dry cover.

‘Astonishing’ doesn’t cut it for me 💕

It is truly beautiful - I’m wiping tears from my eyes from my eyes
Yes it has the same effect on me 1finny, but I didn't want to go too hyperbole on it and hoped others would see the sheer beauty of it. I really like Phobe Bridgers and discovered this by accident while searching on line for one of her songs to put on a new music facebook page I'm a member of. And I just had to add this instead as it blew me away with its starkness and fragility, but powerful voice. Gives me goosebumps every time I hear it.

which facebook page is that bungydinsdale/

it's just a private one asredas, it's for an old mate who died a year ago so his friends and family set up a Facebook page to share new (and old) music among ourselves in his honour. The man, Arthur, loved his music and all of us were influenced by him in some way and also influenced him with some of our musical choices. We thought it would be a good tribute to set up Arthurs Jukebox to continue spreading his love of music among ourselves.

Nah, far too morose for a John Lewis Christmas ad, maybe an add for Shelter or some organisation like that would suit it better.

Nope - dwarfed by the original for me - but happy if that does it for you.
It's very rare that you get a cover as good or better than the original though swordfish (and often much worse, ala Rod Stewart's Downtown Train). But when I listen to a cover version I don't want it to sound like the original as that defeats the object to me. I like it where the covering artist does it a bit different and enhances it in some way that the original did not.
And, again, that's the great thing about music, we've all got opinions on it, and all are just as relevant as another.

I fully accept everyone has different tastes and I've got friends who'd probably be really into that cover. Everyone's tastes are different.

For me though, Fake Plastic Trees is beautiful because of the sad desperation of it, I don't get that from this cover, I get 'X Factor semi-finalists', Simon Cowell wiping a false tear away, golden buzzer, vibes.
