Food standards bill overturned by Tory MPs

Supriiiiise!!

A house of lords bill to protect food standards in trade deals has been overturned. Every vote that was in favour was Tory.

One step closer to that delicious bleach cleaned chicken. The sad part is that it will be the poor who suffer. I am lucky enough to have the option to pay an extra quid and buy organic produced in the uk etc. The substandard food will end up in ready meals, school dinners, hospital meals etc.

Brexit promises and all that.

This absolute shower of a government couldn’t give a single hoot about the poor or those in need, other than their ideological drive towards cutting the already scant safety net the welfare system offers them.

That isn’t the biggest tragedy though; that is reserved for the fact they lied to an manipulated millions of those who are worst affected by their sick ideology into voting for them and keeping them in their ivory towers.

Keyser Soze hasn’t got a look in compared to Cummings and Co.

In fairness (ahem)
They have decided they don’t need to enshrine current standards into law in a post Brexit world. They say they don’t need to do that:

The government argued that giving current standards legal status was unnecessary as ministers had already committed to ensuring that UK food standards would be kept in any post-Brexit trade agreements. However, critics fear that the lack of a legally binding commitment in the agriculture bill will allow future imports of sub-standard food that will undercut British produce and expose consumers to risk.

I think I’d probably be saying if they really were committed to to keeping the standards then there would have been no harm in voting for the amendment.
I mean, what possible reason would you have for not making it law ........
