FMTTM history?

Ta for those screen dumps. I think I probably used it. Just forgot about it completely.

I tried out living in Spain in autumn 2004. Then committed to living in Spain in spring 2005. So I would probably have switched to this name not long after that.

I wonder what happened to Buddy, Captain5, Gravyboat, Dooderooni, Gillandi and Boro_Bliss. Did they all just gradually post less and less?
Buddy's still around. He posted relatively recently but doesn't post much these days. I saw him two weeks ago. captain5 is somewhere around. doods is still here.

What was your previous name?

Off at a bit of a tangent, used to lurk a lot on FMTTM late 90s, strangely until about 2010 felt too out of my depth to post!

My personal history with Boro on the internet started with 606 message boards, where you could debate with posters from other clubs, anyone else remember that? Really came into it’s own around the time of our League Cup win. Also as it was on the bbc it wasn’t blocked at work!

God we're ALL OLD (!).

First thing I ever did to debate on the internet - a mass debate, if you will - was when When Saturday Comes started a bulletin board that you actually had to dial into - none of this internet malarkey or web pages geegaws. I think I was the sole resident Boro fan. I do remember the guy who created Championship Manager coming on and asking users for help in grading players for Championship Manager 2 (!). I did the Boro and Darlo; he sent you a paper spreadsheet to fill in with various attributes to mark the players by. My name is in the booklet in the days that computer games came with bible thick manuals.

History in 100 words or so - Fly Me To The Moon fanzine was set up by friends Gillandi, Robbie B and Tony in 1988 as part of a fan movement sweeping the country involing fan magazines at every club and fans finding their own voice.
Pretty soon brothers Endy was editing helped by brother Miniature G. I edited from early 90s and took over 1994. In about 1998 Alex Wilson built a snall interactive website where amongst other things yiu could punch Rav in the eye and hear the Addams Family theme when Festa popped up.
Around 2000 Rivals owned by Chrysalis asked me to run a website. I didnt want to. The fanzine was full on, every home game. They asked me for six months, I said yes but did nothing... I hadn't a clue. A friend called Sal (from the late, great Tim Lloyd's mailing list) helped us start up.
Rivals had sites for club all over the leagues. It was contenf over message board and there was lots of support staff. But after one year they had sold no adverts and it was sold off by Chrysalis. Rivals had gone bust.
Eventually the succeeding companies got adverts but I never knew who I was working for and how the pay was worked out. But we got really popular and a thriving community. And it was so separate from the fanzine.
I have gone miles over 100 words. In about 2010 we got wind SKY were taking over and got out. A guy from.Bristol took over but his technology failed and his web builder went underground. Block 17 started. A nice gang. Steve Goldby took over Boro Rivals but then Sky came down as predicted and their new vision didnt include message boards. Steve invited me back to run fmttm site which a guy called Jez mocked up from Rivals in a day. In 3 days we had a new network out of the debris of Rivals.
The fanzine nearly stopped but went monthly
Steve went away to London to concentrate on his horse racing and metal stuff. And so I continued with lots of helpers at fmttm working for fansonline. Who were an enigma in a c/o postal address.
The fanzine survived covid because of the generosity of the subscribers. And the jolly online community continued to enjoy Boro chatter. And the rest. During covid we changed to xenforo leaving Rivals style behind forever. I was dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
This year for the very first time ever fmttm online finally became an independent fan site as well as fanzine. What a relief. We might even launch another site with our friends from Blackpool - watch this space.

These lists show what a good board this used to be,when posters generally talked about football and didn’t fall out over trivia issues.
And when every post wasn’t taken over by the same morons who turned them into political/racist/trans arguments and made fools of yourself-you know who you are

Pretty sure that's pre-Rivals when the site was it's own thing.
As I can see rivals in the snapshot I'm obviously wrong but I thought there was a message board pre-rivals at some point that had the link to the live chat where we all got our squad numbers?

It's all so long ago...

---edit---
In fact my early morning(!) failing eyesight has just spotted a chat link so maybe that's it.

Excellent history Rob. Great list of names. Was Clem ever involved with the fanzine in it’s early days?

I agree there’s too much falling out now, but think that’s generally how the online world has developed with social media popularising extremes on both sides and everyone being pushed into an echo chamber, either leftie woke snowflakes or right wing racist conspiracy theorists!

Racking my brains to remember my name. I used to be Tubbs86 on early FMTTM, so maybe that on 606, as I said more of a lurker in my younger days! I remember someone called Wizard of Smog being a prolific poster
