Fixed notice penalties off the Met police - party gate - for PM & Chancellor

Wow, did not expect that. Well I did expect they'd have been involved but a) surprised they've not managed to evade a fine and b) surprised they've announced it. Obviously hoping for it to avoid being used as leverage later down the line.

And we will all get outraged by it, and we will be told to move on, and tragically we will.

I suspect this has probably been timed as it's a worse scandal than a Tory MP being a convicted paedophile.

That's where we are at with this corrupt government: Stories about their corruption leak when they can distract from worse stories about their corruption. Get me out of here!

Ah, but were other people who were fined for covid rule breaches forced to quit their jobs?

Expect Grease-Smug to be trotting this out later today.

"it's old news, people don't care about this you know, Boris has been all brave going to Kiev and it's time to move on" etc etc

Happy to move in, if it's moving on to why the have a convicted paedophile as a standing MP. They should be careful when asking us to move on. There is such a depth of corruption and illegal activity we'll move on to something worse.

But those people were not setting the rules, those people didn't lie to the house, those lot didn't lie to the country.

yeah but it's a seemingly never ending cycle. Will the cumulative effect finally catch up with them at a general election? We can only hope so, but so many of their supporters are so entrenched that i just can't see it ending.

But we cannot hold people to different standards for the same rule breach.

HI, I'm Kirsty Wark and this is News Night :D

As I said on the other thread maybe nothing will happen this is the first official report that confirms he did break the rules.

As this isn’t the press said or another mp said it’s an official police ruling he DID not might or maybe but DID break covid rules.

And thus he did lie to the house.

Wait for it …..the next two weeks will be all about …. it was ages ago, it was just a couple of drinks when they were under incredible pressure, nobody’s bothered anymore - old news, he’s done a great job on coronavirus, he’s saving Ukraine single handed, we need the steady hand of his leadership blah blah blah.
He intends doing nothing until he goes back to the commons in a few weeks time when he hopes the heat will have died down. Can’t wait for Ian Blackmore - he could easily internally combust on the floor of the commons.

Yes. This country has no moral compass at all.
A decade ago and before then EVERY politician guilty of that would have walked.
These days they get away with anything and everything.
Some woman has just been defending him to the hilt on LBC, sounded almost like a parody. I wish it was.
