Fitting Tribute for David Armstrong

Lovely to see Spike remembered in a most fitting way yesterday, truly deserved. For those that saw him play will know what a true professional he was with skills and commitment to the club to match. For those who are too young to have witnessed his skills, goals, assists and consecutive appearances then take a peek at the all time Boro legends scrap book.

The MotD commentator mentioned the commemoration at Southampton, too.

As did the 5live commentators as I was driving down.

I'm too young to have seen Spike play, but I knew he was a Boro legend. I didn't really appreciate how well he was known and respected throughout English football until yesterday.

Finally, a nod of appreciation for the acknowledgement by the Swansea fans yesterday. Not all fans have that class.

Was he part of the firesale that saw the likes of Hodgson, Johnston and Proctor also sold and the start of the club's decline
Yes, all but Hodgson in the summer of 81, Hodgy stayed till the following sraskn then hecwas off to Liverpool

Spike on the left and Cochrane on the right, Burns up front, was a only part of a great team that trounced Chelsea 7-2, which I watched from the south stand above the chicken run and is one of my all favourite games.

My favourite all time Boro player. Was the heartbeat of the team. I watched him play for Southampton as well as I was working down there at the time. Scored as many goals for Saints as he did for Boro and in a lot less games, think he scored 15 from midfield the year they finishes second.

started watching Boro 1969 so was there at Spikes career .... often saw him wandering around Durham as I worked in the civil service for a few years ... Absolute hero and classy player
