Fish and chips

Thanks people, will probably spend an hour looking at reviews and probably end up somewhere I've been to before.
That said some really good suggestions there, got me thinking anyway 🤔

Whitley Bay - Trenchers (expensive)
South Shields - Colmans (do a good smaller portion for £6.95 which is enough)
Seaton Carew - Almighty Cod
Redcar - Olivers
Scarborough - North Bay Fisheries (near Peasholm Park)
Bridlington - 149 (also have shops in Barnard Castle and Catterick Garrison)
York - Thompsons (on A64 eastbound)
Downeys have shops at Stack (Seaburn) Roker Seafront and Seaham Seafront and also a shop on a roundabout near Barnes Park (Sland)

Whitley Bay has a restaurant in the Dome, Colmans has a sit-in part and also has a restaurant by the beach on the way out towards Marsdon

To takeaway and on Teesside - Sea Breeze @ Redcar is a good bet and they do gluten free.

Sit down on Teesside - Seaview @ Saltburn - Go upstairs and great views of Huntcliffe and the Pier as wel as very good fish and chips

Whitby is very busy and generally more expensive - takeway used by locals is Royal Fisheries (I think thats the name) near Spital Bridge - its a bit out of the town. Some of the shops/restaurants in Whitby are really struggling for staff which may have affected the quality and service received.

Another shout out for trenchers, I don’t think you can beat it for the ambience of top notch fish and chips in a seaside venue.
But if it’s local and out the box you’re aiming for then I’d recommend vicarage chippy at marske, lobster road or Oliver’s in Redcar.
Once went to a place in Haxby that held the fish and chip shop of the year award they were perfect too.

Isn't there supposedly a good sit-in one in Seaton Carew?

Yeah The almighty cod...sit in the little restaurant or takeaway....it would be my recommendation...never had bad fish or chips from there ever. Love the half lots option they have on the menu...perfect for kids

Worked in Whitby for a while, live in Redcar. I can honestly say that none of the fish and chips shops are any better than at home.
If I was in Whitby, my choices would be- Riverside opposite Parkol, Railway Chippy, on Fishburn Rd, which is up behind the hospital and nick, or Royal Fisheries which the locals call Fruscos on Baxtergate, all of these are places the locals tend to go.
In Redcar, I would go to Seabreeze Oliver’s, or Fishermans Square, the Little Chip wasn’t bad for a while but the portions are ridiculously small. That said, the best ones are gone- West Dyke fish and Chip shop or my favourite of all time was Thames Road in Redcar, the queue outside was as long as the one for the Holgate.
Redcar is better for fish and chips than Whitby.

At my age fish 'n' chips is a bit of a no-no. Maybe once or twice a year though. About 3000+ ferkin' calories though 😔

I'm from Whitby and totally agree. Nobody I know ever goes to the Magpie, etc. They are for tourists.

I'd add Silver Sreet to the 3 you mentioned.
