One thing that Brendan McCullum has brought to test cricket and England is a different approach to test cricket.

Inspired to declare and have a good go at our batsmen, might not have worked but it has.

Be happy to get past the follow on for now

He’s brought a completely new mentality, right from the off in each Test England are looking at how they are going to win the game, a draw is not an option, actually they would rather lose trying to win than draw. This attacking approach seems to put the opposition under pressure from the first ball. Interesting to see if it works v Australia, particularly next time we are down under.
 
Didn't watch a minute of it but pretty happy with the first day. Great decision re: the declaration and Jimmy doing what Jimmy does.

Despite missing out on Ashes tickets this year I'm more than happy to have just snapped up a couple for the Test Championship final at Oval in June. Hopefully of India v Australia but not sure that's still possible?
 
If not India v Australia who else, thought Aussies were well clear and India now doing their bit to get second by winning at home v Australia?
 
Almost certainly India v Australia I would have thought now.

Weather looking good for the 5 days, if it lasts that long.

I'm definitely an ex pat, been here for 16 years now, born Sedgefield (Hardwick Hall).

However, I';m now a NZ citizen and will always shout for NZ over any team. Its odd and not a conscious decision, just something that happened over time.

Anway, good luck to both teams.

Was it work that took you over there in the first place or was it something you wanted to do?
 
I'd come to my option point in the RAF, 38/16 point so could leave with a pension after 16 years (or 38 years old, whichever is longer).

Didn't know if I wanted to stay in for life so came here on holiday in 2004 to see what it was like, didn't want to go back to the UK just loved it over here.

Worked my last 3 years in the RAF then came over, neither of us had jobs although wife is a nurse so we came in on her quals and got permanent residency, now all citizens.

Its a great place to live, people and countryside is amazing.
 
Sounds like you have all got it made.

I always planned to go and live in France when I retired but Brexit put paid to that.

mmmm, serves them right, I hate it when they don't offer a shot.

As I say, hopefully can bat through the follow on otherwise this is over tomorrow.
 
Conway digging in to make Pope's dolly dropped catch last night pay. Good batting conditions this session. It will get interesting after "dinner"
