First ODI India v england

We needed a Stokes, or a Morgan, or a Buttler and they were all there. Root might have made a difference but there were enough experienced ODI players that didn't do well enough when needed.

Rubbish.
Good ODI sides have a 'steady eddie' type for the big hitters to build round....definitely missed Root. Wonder if Malan could play that role in ODI?

I have felt watching all of these tour matches in different formats we have been bowled out by clever bowlers who have out thought the batsmen at times and by poor batting at crucial stages. The best start by an opening pair for how long, in any format, then what? Oh yeah, England do it again!

Root is the glue for the players you mention, rarely do they all fire in a game and like today, suffer if asked to nudge it about for 10 overs.

I agree and I know we have done exceptionally well under Morgan but I thought he was poor with his comments today. I think there is a bit of needle between these two teams and it seemed to me like England didn't just want to beat India they wanted to hammer them as at one point we looked we win inside 30 overs. Joe Root coming in would have nudged and nurdeled the ball through the gaps and yes the scoring rate might have dropped, but when you're on 130 odd after 15 overs I really think 10 overs at 6 an over isn't such a bad thing. It was poor game management I thought, but the beauty of this England team is they will probably get 400 if batting first next up 😁
