First ever Middlesbrough game

1967 vs Peterborough at Ayresome Park. 2-1 win. I was 10. Big John got two, and Derek Downing and David Chadwick were awesome - I particularly loved David Chadwick. The next home game was the legendary 4-1 against Oxford, with 40,000 crammed into AP. John O'Rourke getting a hatrick, and Eric McMordie being a genius, as indeed he was. It was VERY exciting times to start my journey as a Boro fan!!

Season opener 1955-56 Boro 3 Notts County 0
Lindy Delapenha smashed home a beauty. Cloughie made his debut a couple of weeks later. What a season that was! Boys End for the season along with the following one before family emigrated to 🇨🇦 Fond memories of train trip to London with Dad, Grandad and Uncle for an FA Cup tie (3-1 loss to Spurs) at White Hart Lane.

1988/89 season. Boro 3 Everton 3. In the Holgate End (to the side). Gary Gill broke his leg. Still vividly remember it. The game, not Gill's broken leg!

1956/57 season with my dad in the scoreboard end can't remember anything about it other than being passed over heads to the front of the terrace which frightened the life out of me... never been the same since.

16th August 1994. Clayton Blackmore's testimonial (thank god I didn't go with auto text there as it almost said Clayton Blackmore's testicles 🤣) . First experience at Ayresome park and from that point I was hooked. First proper league game I went to was Boro 1-0 Charlton later that season at Ayresome. UWE UWE !!
I went to that game and a little ginger kid ran the show in midfield. Turned out to be Paul Scholes.

First game was v Derby County in ‘84, midweek game under the lights.
Finished 0-0, only remember David Currie getting sent off.

First away game was at Feethams a couple of years later. David Currie got sent off playing for Darlo!
1-0 Archie with the goal.

And there was a bit of bovver 😬

Got a squeeze with me Dad into the Chicken Run
Can't remember much about the game
Next game against West Ham lost 1-3
Blackburn and West Ham were promoted that season.
31771 for an end of season game!
As has been said first game of next season Boro 9 Brighton 0
Surely promotion beckoned.........

Not sure when my 1st fixture was, it was either a reserve match or possibly one in the JC promotion season. The reserve one was after my parents( bless them) had to a counselling session and the counsellor had said " start doing things together" so I got taken to a reserve match against Carlisle, we stood on the Holgate I must have been either 4 or 5 at the time, I remember it because I was sparsely populated but there was loads of little kids like me running around being a nuisance, i loved it.
The other game I am not sure about, I just remember the ground being packed and there was snow laying about, but it was a sunny day. After the match walking towards the hospital there was a massive group of lads all across the road towards the hospital kicking 4 or 5 other lads up the road towards the General ( hosp.), I loved it. So for me, my 1st game was around 72 73 possibly when I was 4 or 5.

Huddersfield home a night match on 30th March 1970 1-1 draw .Willie Maddren scored for us Frank Worthington scored for Huddersfield . Huddersfield were promoted that season

Middlesbrough 1 man United 1
First season of the Premier League and the first weekend I lived on Teesside.

Bernie’s last ever goal for the Boro I believe

Did go to the Peterborough league cup
Quarter final at London Road the season before that was 0-0 but I was stood in the home end with family who are Posh fans….

I was only 5 when my mam and dad took me too my first game and don't actually remember much about it. Brian Clough scored five goals as The Boro side ran out 9-0 winners over Brighton at Ayresome Park on 23 August 1958.

From that unmemorable start things could only get better. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: UTFB
Cloughie was making a point in that match because he'd been left out of an England squad. After he scored his 5th the Ayresome faithful gave a fine rendition of the song "Who's Sorry Now?".

Boro 1 Newcastle United 0. 27th December 1949. Ayresome Park’s record attendance.
I have the programme for that game somewhere. My mum was in amongst many supporters who walked to the match from Billingham because of the length of the queues for the buses.

Boro 3 QPR 2 in the first home match of the 1971/72 season for me. I don't remember a lot about it but I do remember the next match, which was a night match against Sheffield Wednesday a few days later. That match was a bright spot on a difficult day - a trip to the dentists on the afternoon and the prospect of going back to school after the long summer holiday the following day.

Funny what we remember from the football fixtures - it's like a permanent diary in the mind.
