First ever Middlesbrough game

Boro 3-1Derby County, February 1978.

Mills, Mahoney, Craggs.

A certain Bruce Rioch playing for Derby...

16th August 1994. Clayton Blackmore's testimonial (thank god I didn't go with auto text there as it almost said Clayton Blackmore's testicles 🤣) . First experience at Ayresome park and from that point I was hooked. First proper league game I went to was Boro 1-0 Charlton later that season at Ayresome. UWE UWE !!

West Ham at Ayresome park. Was right at the front of the boys end, pitch level, couldn't see much. Score was 0-0 Clyde Best was playing for West Ham i seemed to see most of him, probably at full back.
If I remember correctly Clyde Best scores a hat trick of disallowed goals that day,

I don't think GS had made his professional debut at that point. Alan Pardew did score, and Coops did indeed put us ahead in the 89th minute with a worldly. What happened next was the stuff of childhood nightmares.

Everton away in the cup for me. 1-1 draw, Sharpe scored for them followed by Paul Kerr equalising for us.
Wright and Bright struck within mins after our goal. One head shaker that last 3 or 4 mins

I can't actually remember which specific fixture was my first Boro game, I just know it was in the 1966/67 season and I watched it from the boys' end with my older brother.

I do remember my first ever game at Ayresome Park though - Soviet Union vs North Korea at the 1966 World Cup.

That's what gave me the taste for live football and why I started going to watch the Boro later the same year.

That was my 1st game also. Sat in the south stand

My debut was 1st game of the season 1968 /69 season. My 1st season ticket joining my older by 5years brother who had been going since 1965/ 66. We won 2-1 Hickton got both. I can remember McMordie and Crossan. First game at Ayresome Park was in March 1968 English League v Scottish League withy Dad and brother - my brother never shut up about Charlton Moore Peters and Hurst. My dad wanted see Jimmy Johnston Lennox Murdoch Gemmel he liked Celtic us being RC and won European Cup in 67, so was stars shining at AP 36K there. As note John Grieg and Colin Stein played that night too.

1989/90 - Middlesbrough 0 - 3 Blackburn

I was 8, can barely remember anything about it. Couldn't see a thing so ran about at the front of the Holgate with the rest of the kids. Always thought we only lost 1-0 but just looked up the result - I must have completely lost interest after they scored their first.

Sat 3rd feb 1979 v forest 1-3 procter scored for us my uncle took me in east stand, when we scored he forgot about me, i was 8 the barsteward scarred me for life with the fever🤣

Middlesbrough v Swansea Town as they where called then.
17th October 1966
Won 4-1 John O'Rourke, Billy Horner, Arthur Horsfield, Derrick Downing
As a 7 year old, my late mother always said I went to games before then.
But me and my older brother always kept a record of all games we attended.
As that is the first one listed for me, I will go with that.

I've done this before. Bristol City at home in the 86-87 season. Mowbray scored the only goal for my debut win.
Same season, FA Cup 3rd round defeat to Preston.

Stood at the front of the Clive Road side of the Holgate and couldn't see a thing.

A friendly match (possibly against an American team) at Ayresome Park in 1985? I was only 4 in 1985, so it’s very hazy. I recall nothing of the match itself, but I have this recollection of someone parachuting onto the pitch, as part of the “entertainment” and there being a fake “mickey mouse” wandering round like Roary would today.
I wasn’t impressed and didn’t go to a match again til 1995.
If anyone has any idea who we played and when it was, I’d be really grateful for the information!

My first game was when I was about 4 or 5. My Mams friend took me to a Boro game at Ayresome park. Don’t know against who and didn’t really understand much of what was going on.

The first game that I properly remember after that is the first season The Riverside. We played Rotherham in the Coca Cola Cup. Won 2-1. Mustoe and Fjortoft scored (I think).
