FIFA’S LAISSEZ-FAIRE ATTITUDE TO QATAR’S WORLD CUP?

Even Advertising Standards (Legal, Honest, Decent, and Truthful) don’t seem to apply in Qatar. BBC and ITV are televising World Cup pitch-side perimeter advertising boards stating “QATAR AIRWAYS - WORLD’S BEST AIRLINE”. Even when I worked at Saatchi and Saatchi in London, British Airways had to be the “World’s ‘Favourite’ Airline’ and Carlsberg had to settle for “Probably”. Why is unqualified exaggeration allowed to be freely broadcast on UK television even if the ‘offence’ is taking place in different country? Would Coca-Cola get away with saying “World’s Best Drink” in Qatar? Maybe they should try it and see…
