Yes is really good. Lots of stalls. Lots of interesting stuff to see. Usually a very good range of entertainment - and good to see this year they are supporting a high street in need in Billingham town centre.

Rob it’s not a high street it’s a town centre but yes great to be supported 👍
Yes, Bllingham Town Centre. But they seem to call these things high street initiatives these days. But yeh the Festival is not just going to be a green field site (as at Kirkleatham) but is going to occupy empty shops and move into the shopping centre as well as John Whitehead Park. Good idea, I think.

Although I know the event itself is a good thing, I'm not sure about the organisers. Whilst based at Kirkleatham, visitors to the festival are estimated to have spent in the region of £2m and the organisers wanted to remain at Kirkleatham until 2025 but expected the council to give them a grant of £100,000 each year. The council, and rightly so, stated it could not justify to pay that amount in the present financial climate. “The Festival of Thrift contacted the council two days later to say they were moving to Billingham.” The council had committed £70,000 to last year’s event and the council leader Mary Lanigan wanted the festival to pay towards car parking.

It seems to me that the organisers are the thrifty ones and will be making money out of it. I do hope I am wrong and the event brings a lot of money into Billingham.

That doesn't sound good.

I did think it was excellent at the Kirkleatham site.

I'm in billingham now although theres a breeze there certainly isnt any gale force winds to cancel an event. Unless things are going to change as we get into the afternoon

It is a bit odd as the forecast for today looks ok and has done all week.

Everyone I know who went yesterday said it was good.
