Favourite Wear/Tees derby?

Enjoyed the FA cup game, t`was a good day for me. It was blowing an absolute gale that day and I scored 4 for the school that morning against Blakeston in a 7-2 win (Champions that season and cup winners). Murdoch and Mills were star men on the day. Murdoch had the skill to keep it down and Mills was tireless that day.

But my Favourite and always will be was the 2-0 away win in 73/74, promotion season. The FA cup holders were beaten at home in a crowd of well over 40k Foggon and Millsy doing the honours. We were in the Roker terrace, which was mixed. Denis Tueart getting his marching orders for putting the v`s up in front of the linesman's face (right beside us), and Bobby Kerr, I was always unsure when and why he got sent off but it must have been at the whistle just about ?, We knew we were going up I think we were promoted that month. Very happy days:)

Was there no segregation back in 1975? The celebrations in the East End look to be mixed amungst the stand when the boro goals go in
The understanding back then was than fans in the seats wouldn't cause trouble. It was broadly true, at least until the 80's when hooligans got more adventurous.

There was segregation but as others have alluded to, fans did mix in certain sections. The Clive Rd End always housed the away fans but those who wanted to sit would be mixed in with Boro fans in the stand behind the goal and in the main stands on the side.

I also remember Sunderland fans standing in the Holgate without any issue, yet after the game with different fans, there was loads of trouble outside the ground as Sunderland fans came out of the Clive Road End and also on Linthorpe Road.

Around that time I stood on the Roker End, Leases End, Gelder End, the side terrace at Anfield and I am sure there will be other games we mixed with home supporters.

1-0 win at Roker Park with a bundled Jamie Pollock goal in 1995. My first experience of being really scared at a football ground. Not quite sure what my Dad was thinking taking me to Sunderland for a night game at 10 years old! You could feel the hatred in the air...not to mention the whizz of a bottles and coins flying past your head.

Wasn't that the game when the Sunderland fans at the side of the Boro fans sang 'Jamie Polloch ugly barsteward' throughout the game and when he scored the Boro fans started singing it? 🤣

Surely not? It's just another game to them.

You wouldn't have thought they'd be such bad losers.
I can still see the blokes who did it. Grown men. There was police right next to them as we were sitting pretty close to the barriers that separated the two sets of fans, but the police were just laughing. Though you don’t know if they were laughing at our fans for reporting it or at the Sunderland fans for doing it.

As for the derby thing, it’s definitely a derby match. It has been for the whole time I’ve been watching us. Not as important to them as Newcastle obviously but a derby nevertheless. I used to think our record against them was so good that by them saying it wasn’t a derby was a sort of self preservation to be honest. But it’s definitely a derby.

You paid at the turnstile and sat or stood wherever you wanted. I was in the Fulwell End for two of the games. Sunderland lads in the Holgate with me.

Two nil at Joker in the 81/82 relegation season. Ashcroft and Baxter. Makem lads running on the pitch and throwing their scarves away in disgust.
This one for me too. After the game we caught the train to Newcastle to see The Jam at the City Hall. It may well have been the best day of my life at the time.

I cam on to say the same. I can still remember the Boro running out at home in what was their away kit of blue and black stripes, the best kit we've ever had.

Another shout for 1975 FA Cup 4th round at Ayresome.Started going in 1966 ,and attended all the Tees Wear Derbies,Mackems never won at Ayresome from then until we moved to the Riverside.

I loved the 2-2 draw at home in 2007, it was a really good game, back and forth and some decent goals too.

Downing scored from outside the box, I can vividly remember celebrating before it hit the back of the net as I could see it curling in from my seat.

Leadbitter scored after a couple of minutes, and then Arca equalised against his old club. Lee Miller, RIP, with the blow at the end.

Fisty cuffs from Cattermole and Leadbitter as well, who would have predicted the career those two would have at the time.
