Favourite Christmas films?

Ah this thread makes its annual appearance like the kindly uncle who pops in on Boxing Day for turkey sandwiches and a glass of sherry.

My top 3 haven't changed for years which is a bad mark against recent Christmas offerings.

1. Its a Wonderful Life - will never ever tire of it.

2. Scrooge - with Alastair Sim

3. Miracle on 34th St - original with Edmund Gwynne.

Honourable mention

1. Polar Express
2. Muppet Christmas Carol
3. Die Hard

A new one i watched last year which i enjoyed was “Last Train to Christmas” … a sort of reimagining of a Christmas carol with Michael Sheen as an 80s Peter Stringfellow type nightclub owner.

It was better than I’ve made it sound 😅

I love to watch them all but my top five

Home Alone
National Lampoons
Muppet Christmas Carol
Elf (if only for Zooey Deschanel)
Planes Trains and Automobiles

Bernard and the Genie is the correct answer

TV film from the BBC in the early 90s but I don't think it's ever been repeated. I managed to source a DVD of it and we watch it every year

Although it is a good film I always think ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ is overrated as a top Christmas film.

I love Elf and it’s not Christmas without seeing it. Polar Express is another one.

My favourite ‘A Christmas Carol’ is with Patrick Stewart and we watch it every Christmas Eve with mulled wine and nibbles.

I’m with @Juninhoburger and have Die Hard up there.

Is Zulu a Christmas film? It’s always on over the festive period. 😜
Not a lot of snow in it

I think I've seen nearly all the versions of A Christmas Carol.

You cannot beat Alastair Sim, although for me Patrick Stewart runs a close second.

Not keen on Albert Finneys, but without a doubt, 'Thank You Very Much' is an absolute corker and the best part of the film

Reginald Owens version is made for yanks and there's too many Van Dyke style cor blimey guv'nor accents.

I like the Muppets one.

George C Scott's I can take or leave.

I quite like the Sir Seymour Hicks version. He'd played Scrooge literally thousands of times.

Fun fact - Liz Smith played Mrs Dilber in the Patrick Stewart one and the George C Scott version, and appeared in the BBCs Ross Kemp adaptation.
