Favourite boro eleven

4-2-3-1

Schwarzer
Young
Southgate
Woodgate
Quedreue
Boateng
Gascoigne
Adama
Juninho
Downing
Viduka

I know Gazza wasn't at his best here but he had one good season and I think he'll always feature in my favourite 11. If I was choosing based entirely on Boro performances I'd probably switch Gazza out for Emerson.

73-74 team is my all time favourite but to answer the question posed;

The Bruce Rioch team was a close second and coincided with me travelling all over the country wathcing Boro in a great era.

Pears
Parkinson
Queudrue
Mowbray
Maddren
Ripley
Souness
Boateng
Juninho
Hickton
Armstrong

subs
Viduka

Quedreue

Boateng
Mendieta

Traore
Juninho
Downing

Viduka

I'm aware that Mendieta wasn't a deep lying midfield player, but I had to get him in there because he produced some absolute magic on his day.

That's pretty much my favourite team but with Emerson for Boatang and Slaven for Armstrong. Two players I love dropping out by the way.

So few have Maddren our best CB in living memory.

Quite possibly, however to appreciate* - great defending - you really need to be able to read the game & see what the defenders are doing to stop the attacking play develop... unlike falshy wingers wtih endless stepovers & strikers jumping in the air waving their hands 'look at me, look at me'

Craggs I could see was ahead of his time & STILL the best RB we've had - IMHO - because he did slide tackles from Grangetown & was up & down the flanks like a piston...
Maddren was so good he could have been 70's Italian...

*many may have been too young...

Some possible snakes in there, who I was disappointed in the way they left. But they were favourites when they played.

Me, or Robson.

*edit, I've had to drop Merson to the bench. His appearances on Soccer Saturday are just too horrific.
Ha, I don't even remember writing that about Merson!
