Favourite book

Cracking thread. Picking one is almost impossible though! Not sure I could limit it to 20.

Some off the top of my head are:

Lord of the Rings Trilogy (minus the lengthy elvish poems).

The Three Musketeers

A game of thrones

The name of the wind

A Christmas Carol.

I’m with many others on here and struggle to pick a favourite book. Like music, it can depend on moods, time of year, etc.

Last year I listened to Treasure Island read by Timothy West and thoroughly enjoyed. I will often pick up Hemingway’s book Old Man and the Sea and read that - I can remember reading that to my youngest.

I like reading about real adventures - Into Thin Air, Touching the Void, Mad, Bad and Dangerous to Know. Even Simon Reeves book Step by Step but my favourite is South by Shackleton.

Trust me, the first book is the lesser of the three, although I still enjoyed it. The second and third books are a totally different beast to the first, they blow it out of the water. The Dark Forest starts off relatively slowly but quickly takes off, and when it does, the action, the ingenious concepts, the pace of the story is exhilarating. Entire books could be written based on one of the concepts alone, yet the fact he used them all for one (three-book) story is amazing.

Admittedly, there will obviously be people who totally disagree with my opinion (though they surely can’t disagree with the ingenuity of the concepts), but if you enjoyed the body of the first book then I would HIGHLY recommend you read the next one. 👍🏻
Recommendation accepted. I love having something to look forward to.
