Will it gather steam? As time goes on more people will have friends and relatives killed by this virus, makes it more real and more personal. The outcome of that may be anger at rule flouters and acceptance that to control the virus we need repeated lockdowns.

I mean there's a chance that the virus mutates to become more dangerous... It's not normal for that to happen but it could. This could lead to your scenario I guess but I'd wager it will go the other way and I certainly hope, the virus doesn't mutate in such a manner.

I think you misunderstood my remark. My scenario is the natural situation, it doesn't need to mutate. As time goes by the total dead will rise, thus more of us have a friend or relative no longer here.

No I understood it, I just believe it would have to mutate for that to be the case.

If it stays like this you're more likely to have people who's 85 year old gran, with dementia has died with it and them not being allowed to see them, attend the funeral creating anger rather than lack of lockdown in my opinion but I accept you believe there will be far more dead as things go on.

Yes over 60s are going to be impacted more, but there will be the 45-55 year old kids of that dead relative and the 78 year old sibling, and 65 year old neighbour. Lots of people will know people they love who have died. 46k on the official stats, but likely much more, maybe 60k+ That's already 1 in a 1,000 Brits dead from this.Which means about 1 in 4 people know someone who has died. When it gets to 1 in 2 next year, that's when the tide will turn and more strict measures will be required.

All we are seeing now is the complacency and desire for it to be gone without any science.....just like with the spanish flu and it's second and third waves. History is a great way to understand societal mistakes.
