I don't mind them, me.
Some good memories of cup replays when I was a kid and tickets were dirt cheap.

We drew with Manchester United on their own patch. I loved the victory on penalties but the Boro would’ve been bouncing at the prospect of them coming to town for a replay. Which would’ve given Boro another pile of ticket and TV money. And we beat Spurs at home so no reason we wouldn’t have beaten an inferior Man. United team at home.
Well we may not have been beaten by the 2nd minute again as that Boro team was in a far better and stronger place than Woodgate’s Boro. We might not have had Chelsea at home - if we’d lost - but the Spurs replay would’ve generated a lot of money and exposure for the club. We drew at Old Trafford and won on penalties so why not at Tottenham? We beat Spurs in extra time.
This season, that would have went to a replay.
Like it did under Woodgate, where we were beaten from the 2nd minute.
I think its more about how we view Brighton. A team that are likely to beat us but aren't a big enough name to cause any excitement.
Also, its the third round. Be a different story if it was the 5th or 6th.
Of course it wouldn't. It would have brought a full house at the Riverside for a big occasion.A great example of where a replay would have ruined it.

Plenty of matches that would have created a lot more interest in this Rd than Brighton , I think even 25-27 years ago we would have been a little apethetic towards this type of draw and I don't doubt it the same for Brighton as well.I'd of been more excited with a 3rd round draw against Hartlepool!
We beat Tottenham at home, a better team who I think were higher in the league table than Manchester United at the time.We were played off the park at Old Trafford, 9 times out of 10 we'd have lost that game comfortably, but we rode our luck and snuck through because of a penalty shootout.
The likelihood is 9,000 Boro fans at Old Trafford celebrate a flukey draw, and then 30,000 Boro fans would have seen us get beaten at home.
I much prefer those 9,000 having been able to celebrate a victory against the odds on the night.

We’d have had two games against Manchester United instead of one, two big nights for the club. I don’t see any reason why we couldn’t have beaten them at the Riverside TBH.
My point is that we beat Spurs so could have beaten an inferior Manchester United. If we’d drawn at Old Trafford and had a replay at home then a 1-0 win AET was eminently achievable. The team showed that they had the quality to do it.We beat Tottenham because there wasn't a replay.
Obviously Newport County will have been quite pleased at the prospect of a replay 4 years ago as they equalised in the last minute and then deservedly beat us at home, but it's rare that it works that way, and they'd have got just as much joy from taking that to extra time and/or penalties on the night.
I saw a far better Man Utd side beaten at Ayresome in a replay in front of 39,000+ Boro fans. Why couldn't it happen again? We were played off the park at Old Trafford, 9 times out of 10 we'd have lost that game comfortably, but we rode our luck and snuck through because of a penalty shootout.

agree with that, penalties generally give the underdog the best chance of getting through rather than a replayI much prefer the jeopardy of a result on the night. The underdogs chances are often dramatically reduced in the replay once the favourite becomes more familiar with their tactics.
Look at our game against Man Utd last season, distinct possibility we lose that replay! Or the flip side, Boro v Chesterfield 96/97. Without a replay they might have turned us over in the pennas ( I wouldnt have fancied Ben Roberts to save many)
Replays for smaller clubs could well be a lifeline to their survival. The potential Tv income, a draw at home and a potential big away day. I don’t want to see those opportunities go away. Penalties are a bad way to decide an FA Cup tie, can encourage negative tactics.I don't think it adds anything that a penalty shootout on the night wouldn’t.
Most replays just end with the bigger clubs ultimately winning anyway, and it inconveniences both clubs.
Drawing a big club away would still be a common outcome through luck of the draw.
