Sunderland Play Off final and a Newcastle FA Cup final..
Premier League Football and another jaunt into Europe?

What has reduced the appeal of the FAC?

Likely possiblilties:

Increased money in the Premier League.
Bigger differences between top Premier league squads and everyone else.
Premier league teams playing weakened teams in earlier rounds (I remember MU fielded a complete U21 team against Exeter and drew 0-0 at home, no penalties sanctioned).
More European matches for English clubs.
More opportunities to play at Wembley, say in Play off finals.

For me to take the 2 kids to this game it would cost a total of £40. Yet a season ticket holder with 2 kids only pays £25. It just makes you think why should I bother. £25 is good value and I would definitely go at that price. £40 in the current climate for a 3rd round FA Cup tie is still too much in my opinion. People may disagree. Once again, if you're not a season ticket holder, you feel you're not a valued supporter. The walk up prices for league games make you feel the same.

I asked someone about 10 years ago why they don’t go to early round cup matches anymore - they said they don’t go to watch reserve games either which is how we and every other top two division team treat them.

I think he had a fair point at the time and it’s even more evident now. It started off with arsenal playing their (very talented) youth team back in the late 90s under wenger and now everyone does it. Our team against Barnsley this season being a case in point.

If you aren’t going to field your first choice team or most times even a semblance of that then why would expect your fans to fully invest in it? The “Magic of the cup” goes both ways.

Its not lost "appeal" for Michael Carrick: he spoke with great enthusiasm about the FA Cup yesterday [Media Conference]
He recalled his family planning the day around the Cup Final.
About dreaming of playing in the Cup "as a kid" and how that still reflects his competitive nature.
He pulled no punches when the reporters suggested he might play a "weakened" team - to which he replied "I dont have any weak players".
He concluded:-

"I believe in the players. I believe in the squad and we`ll go out to win the game"(y)

I genuinely think the fact that Sky don't have the rights to it will be one of the "problems".

They're still the main provider of sports content in this country and they avoid giving too much coverage to the FA Cup because they can't show the content.

Not that I want Sky to have the rights to it, but it's noticeable that they avoid discussing it, same with the Champions League.

Far more people will watch F A Cup ties this weekend being on BBC and ITV than if they were on SKY. This will mean far higher profile.
A good idea would for people to buy a ticket for Boro now and go to the Riverside and enjoy our/your team go toe to toe with a top ten Premier team.
Get to the matcg enjoy the FA Cup.

That's not what I'm saying.

I'm saying that Sky deliberately provide less coverage to football they don't have the rights to and underplay the importance.

Which will have a knock on effect.

Outside of the FA Cup weekends themselves, the BBC and ITV are not the primary providers of football coverage.

There's next to no build-up from Sky channels and media.

I agree with this, Sky do have a massive impact on these competitions, it would be interesting to see the viewing figures of the champions league since sky lost it.
