Everton deducted another 2 points.

The randomness of the punishments is so frustrating.

10 points reduced to 6 points, then 2 points reduced from 5. It gives the strong sense that they’re making it up as they go along.

Losing 2 points is no incentive at all to reign in your spending, it’s hard to take that seriously.

They are making it up as they go along. When the rules came in to place the clubs voted against setting a tariff, hence why there isn’t one and they are now making it up as the go.

I read that Everton spent £30m on transfers fees , despite them knowing they would be over the limit. I don’t think either deduction is enough.

Absolute basics of governance and law-making suggest that there has to be clear tariffs, and I have no idea why the clubs are involved in the process of setting their own punishments.

It's a bit like saying, right you've burgled someone - we have no guidelines for what the sentence should be so we'll just make up a number, and you can decide how many years you want to serve.

It annoys me because clubs overspending is a genuine problem. It distorts the competitiveness of the sport, attracts very morally dubious characters/states/investment funds and puts football clubs at risk. PSR was an imperfect solution but for one transfer window, when it looked like the punishments had teeth and it would be taken seriously, Premier League spending was way more realistic which will make a better game for everyone. I'm talking globally and throughout the English leagues, PL spending distorts the whole world. In a way I don't blame the clubs - it's a bit like tax laws, if people are able to legally break them then the law is designed badly, which is the (often complicit) fault of lawmakers.

If you're going to get a 2 point deduction just spend what you like. Might as well go 200 million over for the cost of a late equaliser.

I'm a fan of a tiered system and it has to be a harsh sporting consequence or there's no point. Let's say 5 points per 5 million over, all administered by an independent body, and punishments should be applied immediately as accounts are delivered and applied to that season, no appeals (or doubled if the appeal is turned down). Set the window for accounts to be delivered early in the season so there's certainty for all the clubs re league positions (it's absurd that there's 6 games left in the Premier League and Forest, Everton and Luton still don't really know where they stand) and make the accounts transparent.

I believe it’s because the Prem is a members club and needs a 14 club vote in favour of a change or implementation of a rule. They voted the rules in but didn’t want the tariff.

That’s why it’s like it is. I think they thought a small fine or something would happen, but now it’s hot teeth they do t like it.

Can see it been voted out soon as causing to many an issue
