Everton Appeal

What will be the final outcome?
I can see it being reduced to 6/5 points with a suspension involved.

Guilty as hell in my opinion, I've been sort of following this for the last 18/24 months & they should of been hot last season tbh.

Would love it if it was actually increased, frivolous comes to mind..
Knowing the FA/Premier League tho & Everton regarded as a big club in the stature of West Ham & there shannaigans with the Tevez etc scenario I can see them being let off lightly.

Oh & to add, the statement says this hearing will take place before the end of the season, could be squeaky bum time for all those clubs around the bottom 3 if Everton are still in there come the end of the season.

All that means is they can fit in whatever punishment suits them. If Everton are comfortable then the full deduction stands as a warning to others. If they are already relegated anyway, same. If they are within 10 points of relegation they will choose a punishment that will allow them to avoid relegation without making them look weak.

Terrible idea to have it towards the end of the season: any punishment becomes far more pointed an emotive at that point. The implications of the exact number of points are so much more apparent. The panel may not find themselves asking "how many points is just and fair"; they may be asking themselves "do we relegate them or not?" If they decide not, they are effectively deciding to relegate someone else, and one side or the other will be furious about it.

The FA/PL are making things worse for themselves here. Need to have this concluded by the end of March at the latest.

I can’t remotely understand grounds for an appeal or any sympathy for them.
Even with industrial level cheating disguised, they still breached the rules.
It’s mind boggling.

Frivolous appeal. Increase the penalty.
Season opener in their new stadium at home to newly promoted Stevenage in championship.

Would not surprise me if the final outcome is nil point’s deduction.

The reality is that football at the top level is full of crooks and they think rules are there to be broken.

I have to say that I'm surprised by how many media personalities have suggested the punishment is too harsh, but then they're maybe playing to the crowd.

Until clubs realise that there is a tangible deterrent they will continue to breach the rules, which lets not forget were introduced in order to keep clubs viable and sustainable.

Fines are not a sufficient deterrent, points reductions are and whilst I feel sorry for the fans it serves as a sobering lesson for those who want 'rich foreign investors' around their clubs.

Me too. I don't mind Everton and can't understand some of the glee for their plight when there are potentially bigger breaches by other clubs.

My thinking is if Everton stay at 10 points that really does set a precedent for City and Chelsea.
Pep is on record as talking about being in Div 1

If they dilute Everton’s they dilute them all ?

Reduce it to zero. Football should be sorted on the pitch not the court room. We risk the championship being flooded with ludicrously wealthy premier league teams. It's bad enough we have the parachute teams to contend with.

They are definitely guilty so the only appeal is the way they decide on the punishment. The PL should have fixed penalties for rule breaches and then there would be no messing about. They recommended 12 points and only ended up with 10. There doesn't seem to be any basis on how they got to that number so I presume that it what is being challenged.

I do fundamentally disagree with the FFP rules. They are unfair anyway. It's preposterous you can have a competition where one team is allowed to spend more than others because they sell more shirts and tickets. There should only be two possibilities, everyone spend whatever they want or everyone spend the same maximum amount (which would be the preference). They can separate everything so players salaries and transfer fees are the only thing that counts and then have different financial sustainability rules around clubs being financially sustainable but on a competition basis everyone being subject to the same rules.

FFP needs to be altered so clubs have to demonstrate it at the end of the season. Set a budget at the start of the season, report on progress at Jan & submit as close to the end of season as possible.
If the club fails & gets a points deduction, it is done & dusted, they are penalised in the season they've failed & the clubs they've cheated benefit.

Pointless (pun uninteded) docking points a season or two after the incident & benefitting teams that weren't harmed by their failures, and making the teams that were think they have to go to court to get restitution.

Absolutely agree 100%

Their fans writing a letter about it being unfair on fans. Like West Ham did. Noone cared about us.

If I were Gibson I would write a letter saying what about Boro fans. Actually I might write one. Could we all write one? Could Rob write one on our behalf? Consistent punishment is important. And we should never, ever forget how they treated us

I've already done this. I went to London in 1998 and got drunk and decided to turn up at the FA headquarters at Lancaster gate. They wouldn't let me in even when I pretended to be a daily star reporter, so we retired to the pub and wrote a strongly worded letter which we folded into a paper airplane and flew into the grounds.
