Yes a shame. Tarling won last years ITT. Think GB have form for missing the elite RR in recent years. Obv the powers that be don't like it in the packed schedule of racing but others seem to manage.

To be fair, the startlist for most races hes been pretty poor, with some notable exceptions. With the Olympic Games and with the World's still to come, it's understandable why many riders have skipped it. It also clashes with the two Canadian races which actually have a better-quality field - and better parcours as training for the Worlds.

In a sport obsessed with tradition and history it's not surprising that there's not a load of fanfare for something that has only appeared recently.
I can only think of Strade Bianche from all the recent races that has really cemented a place in the heart of cycling fans beyond the traditional grand tours and monuments.

Agreed earlier races seem to have less focus than the early season one day races - after the Vuelta its only the Il Lombardia and the WC championships left to work on.

My point wasn't about the time of year (although that could well be a factor too) but until the mid 90's this race wasn't even a thing, so not surprised it hasn't got the attention and prestige of the more historical races.
Post Vuelta (although the Vuelta used to be ran in the spring and only shifted in the mid 90's too, so post Tour really) then it's has always been about the WC's and Il Lombardia as well as the money makings crits too.
